Page 73 of My Retribution Too

Good. The fucker deserved it.

The other guy was taken away in an ambulance, his injuries too major for him to walk out on his own two feet. Everyone looked over at Homer appraisingly, but he shook his head and pointed to me.

“Oh no, that was all her. Looks like we have another Mike Tyson on our hands.”

Ayana grinned proudly. “That’s my girl.”

Once the house was clear of everyone except Lock’s men, we all huddled around the table and talked about what happened. Homer explained how he heard a noise in the back and went to investigate, his gun out. When he emerged from the back door he was jumped. He worked to fend them off as best and as fast as he could. It dawned on him immediately that these guys were a distraction and he needed to get to me, but he couldn’t. He had to first put the three guys down before he could get to me. I was so glad he came when he did though. I was seconds from losing my life.

When I told everyone what happened I couldn’t tell them a lot because everything was garbled in my mind. Some things I remembered doing, but there were other things I saw myself doing to some figure on the ground. Almost like an out-of-body experience. I couldn’t decipher what was real or what was my imagination running away from me. I remembered throwing the water, kicking him in his knees, his balls, then bringing his face to my knee, but that was about it. The bruises he sustained didn’t match to what I told them. They said the guy’s face was bruised and battered and he was pissing blood. I shrugged, remembering I saw myself stomping the hell out of him. Maybe that’s what happened to him, and it wasn’t a dream. I didn’t have an answer for them. I wasn’t sure how they would take the out-of-body experience response.

However, it seemed I didn’t have to explain anything. Ayana took over, grinning at me from across the table. She raised her hand for a high five and explained, “Oh, I can tell you exactly what she did, and I’m proud of you sweetie.”

I gave her a high five trying to fight the grin that spread along my reddened cheeks.

“You can tell what happened based off the injuries he sustained,” Homer asked.

Ayana shook her head. “No, but I can tell you what I’ve trained my girls to do. I teach them to do whatever you can to get away. If you can get your attacker down, however, don’t run. Do your best to beat the fuck out of them. Stomp them in the stomach, knees, face, neck. Most of all the groin and balls. And I mean grind your heel until those balloons, bust them if you have to. They…”

The guys groaned loudly, faces scrunched up in disgust and pain.

“Okay, we get it,” Ivey yelled over her and turned away from her. I saw his hands disappear under the table and I imagined he was holding his own boys.

Lock was sitting at the head of the table next to me, his eyes on me. I couldn’t read his expression, and I had no idea what he was thinking. But I knew he would share his thoughts when we were alone. Would I like that conversation? Probably not.

“You guys are so sensitive when it comes to your family jewels.” Ayana concluded.

“Hell yeah,” Sol barked, “If you had a set, you’d know.”

Derek snorted and rolled his eyes. “Remember who you’re talking to. She does have a pair.”

I burst out laughing. Ayana rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t help the smile that spread on her face.

“Alright, let’s focus,” Lock interrupted and glanced at Danny. “Danny, did you get a chance to look at the security footage?”

“No, I’ve been running down the leads of the two unwanted visitors.” Danny announced.

“And? Do you have a hit?” Lock asked.

“No, not yet. But I should have something soon.”

“Alright, in the meantime bring up the footage from the back cameras. Let’s see how the fuck they bypassed the alarm and motion sensors.”

Danny started typing away and everyone moved to his side of the table to look at his tiny screen. I stayed where I sat. I had no desire to see these masked figures again much less watch Homer fight for his life.

Ayana, who was sitting next to Danny, leaned over to watched.

“Okay, I have it,” he announced even though everyone was around him and could see he had it up.

“Play it,” Homer said, and as they watched the screen, everyone’s face frowned.

“Do you have the right recording?” Lester asked.

“Of course, I do. You can also see the day and time stamped at the bottom of the screen. According to Homer’s account, this is when he went to the back door.”

“Yeah, but where am I?” Homer asked, exasperation lacing his voice.

“Check a different view.” Lock instructed and Danny typed away again.
