Maybe, just maybe, he wasn’t crazy. Maybe they could do this.

She knew she had to try.

“If you think I can be the queen you need,” she said, and heard her voice echo back at her from all over the vast palace complex and the Santa Domini mountains that surrounded them, “then I promise you, I will do my best to live up to that honor every day of my life. I promise.”

Cairo’s smile broke across his face, brighter than the summer’s day around him. He surged to his feet and he pulled her into his arms, and the whole of his kingdom cheered for them, loud and long.

So loud and so long that nobody could hear him when he leaned in closer, his gaze hard and hot and hungry on hers, just the way she liked it.

“I love you,” he told her again, this time for only her. “I will never let you go,tesorina.Never.”

“You’d better not, Your Maddening Majesty,” she said. Then smiled back at him, hope and love and the whole of their future dancing there between them. “Just think of the headlines.”

“I always do,” Cairo replied, arrogant and sure.

And entirely hers, forever.

Then he bent her back over his arms, a dashing king and his Cinderella queen, and kissed her like a fairy tale come true.

Because, Brittany knew with a rock-deep certainty, it finally had.
