I cupped her cheek and turned her head to face me. I kissed her, letting my tongue touch hers. She moaned into my kiss. No matter how bad of a day she was having, I could always count on her heated, needy response to me. “Thank you, baby girl.”

She smiled a little at me before pecking my lips and getting up from the bed, padding barefoot to her bathroom. I waited until her bathroom door was shut before I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called my brother.

“Yeah?” he asked when he answered, sounding out of breath. He had probably been working out. Just because he was discharged didn’t mean he had stopped working out. I knew he craved a routine.

“Think you can free up your day to come to Bailey’s doctor's appointment?”

He grunted, and I heard something clank in the background. “Yeah, of course. She okay?”

I sighed. “Not really. She was making some progress,” which he already knew since I’d been keeping him informed, “but anything to do with our baby sets her back.”

He sighed softly. “Poor girl is suffering,” he murmured. “Yeah, I’ll be there. Shoot me the address to the doctor’s office, and I’ll be there waiting.”

“Thanks, bro.”

“Anything for her.”

With that, we ended the call. I walked downstairs and warmed Bailey up some oatmeal, adding sugar and brown sugar to it just as she liked. She emerged downstairs a few minutes later wearing a t-shirt and leggings, her feet shoved into her boots. Her hair was hanging wet around her shoulders, and she looked tired.

I sat at the table and patted my lap. With a small smile and slightly red cheeks, she settled on my lap, allowing me to feed her the oatmeal. Trent jogged downstairs, his hair a mess.

“I fucking overslept,” he groaned.

I laughed softly. “Better hurry to work then,” I told him.

He shoved a baseball cap on his head and slid his feet into his boots, snatching his keys from the table by the door as he did so. He pressed a kiss to Bailey’s forehead before he rushed out of the house.

He was super fucking lucky he had a boss who was lenient.

Bailey ate half her oatmeal before she shook her head when I tried to feed her another bite. Happy that she ate even half of it, especially on a bad day, I let it go.

I pressed my lips to hers. “Proud of you, baby girl.” Her cheeks warmed under my praise. But she loved it when I praised her for doing things; I’d learned that a while back.

I patted her thigh, a silent order for her to get up. I disposed of the rest of the oatmeal and grabbed her hand in mine, leading her out the front door. “Stephen is meeting us there.”

“Okay.” She tightened her hand around mine. “Are you sure he won’t turn away when he sees how messed up I get?”

My heart clenched in my chest. It was my fault that she had abandonment issues. I’d fucked her up.

I turned her to face me and backed her up against the door of my truck. Her breath hitched in her throat, and her eyes flickered to my lips before focusing back on my eyes.

I brushed my nose with hers. “Just open your eyes, baby girl, and you’ll see that my brother couldneverturn his back on you,” I assured her.

With that, I kissed her, my hands grasping her waist. She moaned into the kiss, her fingers plunging into my hair. I worked my lips with hers, coaxing hers apart until I could slide my tongue against hers. I explored every part of her mouth, my hands sliding up her shirt to cup her breasts.

She whimpered into the kiss, her fingers tugging on the strands of my hair. I kissed her harder before my watch beeped, interrupting us. I groaned and parted our lips, both of us breathing heavily.

“Get through this appointment, baby girl,” I said raggedly, “and I’ll finish that; I promise.”

I opened her door and helped her up into my truck before I shut her door, my cock hard as fucking steel.

Stephenand I both held Bailey’s hands as she laid back on the bed. The doctor was keeping check on the baby’s progress every appointment since Bailey’s mental health was bad and kept her from eating a lot.

The moment the baby popped up on the screen, Bailey squeezed her eyes shut, tears gathering in her eyes and silently spilling down her cheeks. “Baby, look at me,” I coaxed. She slowly opened her glittering eyes. “It’s okay. Just breathe. It’s almost over,” I assured her.

She kept her face turned away from the screen. I wanted to look; fuck, I really wanted to see our baby. But I didn’t want to risk making her spiral further.
