“Sorry,” Blaise apologized.

Yes, the bad boy hadapologized.

While I wanted to run and hide from the embarrassment, the look on Blaise’s face dropped moments after I pulled away. My chest tightened, uneasiness sitting heavily in my stomach. I grabbed a fistful of his shirt, pulled him down, and kissed him again.

This time, when I pulled away, I quickly stepped into the house. “Good night, Blaise.”

He stood outside with the goofiest grin on his face, his thumb wiping the excess saliva I had left on the corner of his mouth. “Night, V.”

Butterflies fluttered in my stomach. I shut the door and pressed my back against it, my breath quickening. Things were good. Almost too good. And I wondered what the hell would fuck this up soon.

Nothing could ever be easy in Redwood.

Suddenly, the light turned on, blinding me.

“Oh my God! I almost just passed out,” Maddie said from the couch.

Dressed in the shirt I’d bought him, Mateo sat next to her with a bowl of popcorn on his lap and fake gagged. “In disgust.”

“No, you brat.” Maddie shoved Mateo and jumped up. “You kissed Blaise!”

I held the laptop closer to my chest and arched a brow. “Were you guys spying on me?”

“I’d rather puke than willingly watch you swap spit with Blaise,” Mateo said.

“If kissing makes you wanna puke, what’ll happen when you find out that they’ve fuck—”

“Maddie!” I scolded, playfully narrowing my gaze at her. “Stop it!”

Mateo shot up from the couch and placed the popcorn down. “Vera, you’re disgusting.”

Once Mateo disappeared into his bedroom, looking like he was actually about to puke all over the shirt I’d bought him, Maddie rolled her eyes at his dramatics. “Now that he’s gone … it wasn’t myplanto spy on you. I decided to come back about an hour ago to help your mom clean up a bit. Those sophomore kids had left this place a mess, like I’d thought they would. I stayed because I wanted to make sure you got in all right.” Maddie stepped closer to me and dropped her gaze to the laptop. “Did lover boy get you a present too?”

My cheeks warmed. “That’s not the only thing he gave me tonight.”

Maddie smirked. “God, you’re nasty, and I love it.”

I burst out laughing, all the tension from tonight finally leaving my body. Maddie shrugged on her jacket and grabbed her purse along with a plastic bag filled with leftover pizza that Mom must’ve been forcing her to take home.

“I’d better get all the deets at school tomorrow.”

Once Maddie finally left, I prayed that Mom hadn’t been listening in on our conversation, and I hurried to my room. I sat on my bed and unboxed the MacBook, my eyes widening in awe at the sleek, costly piece of metal.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. This was more than I ever could’ve imagined.

After plugging it into the charger, I logged in to Google and furiously typed the next chapter of my story. Inspiration hit me hard, and I didn’t stop until it was nearly three in the morning.

Deciding that I needed to go to bed, I posted the chapter online, closed the laptop, and lay on my mattress, grinning to myself. This still didn’t feel real. So much so that I could barely keep my eyes closed.

Instead, I logged in to my online writing platform and scrolled to the notifications

Almost immediately, someone liked the chapter. I smiled and stared at the screen, in awe at how fast someone had clicked on my story. Two weeks ago, I hadn’t thought that anyone would even read it. Now, people were clicking on it the moment it was posted.

Sunbeam34: @holywater needs to get in here asap. Omg.

While I tried, I couldn’t stop the grin from stretching across my face.

Holywater: I’m here and ready for smut.
