“First of all, I’m good—the best, actually—but I’m going to need a hell of a lot more to go on than that. Second of all, who the fuck are you? Moira, did you put me on speaker without giving me a heads up? I’ve blacklisted people for less than that. You know the rules.”

“Sorry, Asher. This isn’t something I could have done privately.” Moira glared at me. “I was going to tell you I wasn’t alone, butsomeonegot his knickers in a twist and stole my phone.”

“If he hadn’t done it, I would have,” Kingston said.

“Me too. And I don’t wear knickers,” Alek added.

“What is this, a circus? How many fucking people are with you?” Asher’s voice dropped as he muttered to himself, “Fucking amateur hour.”

“Not my circus, not my monkeys. But sort of. There are three other guys here. Noah, Kingston, Alek, meet Asher Henry. King of the Nerd Herd.”

“Put some respect on my name, Belladonna,” he growled. “It’s you coming to me for a favor.”

“Sorry, geez. I don’t remember you being so uptight.” Looking around at us, she explained, “Asher is what’s known in the industry as a black hat.”

“A hacker?” Kingston asked. “Do we really trust a guy known for snooping around in other people’s business?”

He had a good point, but this was the only solution we could go with, and desperate times called for desperate measures. I had to get Sunday back. Everything was wrong without her.

“As a rule? No. But Asher and I go way back. He’s not stupid enough to get on my bad side. He knows what I could do to him.”

“Transmutation. My favorite,” Alek said with his usual cocksure grin. He seemed to have gained control of his beast in the last few minutes. Having a plan of attack agreed with him. I only hoped it paid off.

“And how do the two of you know each other?” I asked.

Rosie burst through the open doorway, panic in her eyes. “What’s wrong? I could sense your pain, Noah. What happened?”

“Good fucking God, how many more clowns are going to get out of this car, Moira?” Asher’s voice was filled with pure annoyance.

I glanced at my sister and gave her a warning shake of my head. “It’s fine. She’s my sister. Rosie, Sunday’s been taken. We’re trying to find her.”

She pressed her lips into a tight line, worry in her eyes. Then I turned my attention back to the phone in my hand.

“Moira, how do you know Asher?”

Asher cleared his throat over the line. “She helped make a pesky problem go away years ago.”

“What kind of problem?”

“He was cursed by an angry witch. I bought him more time. He’d be dead right now if it weren’t for me.”

“But he’s human, isn’t he?” Generally we kept our existence secret. Humans had a tendency to die when they got mixed up in our world.

“Yeah, but you know how easy it is for norms to get too involved.”

“Norms?” Alek repeated, his brows furrowed.

“Normals,” I answered, just as Kingston said, “Humans.”

Moira nodded as she continued with her explanation. “I swear he’s legit. I wouldn’t risk it otherwise. Asher is the last person to do anything that would bring attention to himself. He’s as off the grid as you can get. Covert may as well be his middle name and all that. Seriously. The only reason I have his number is that he owes me, and I’m willing to bet this is only one of seven burner phones the dude has.”

Asher chuckled. “Seven. That’s cute.”

“We need you to find Sunday. Now.” My words were sharp and harsh, but I didn’t have time to wait on this fuckwit. Every passing second took her farther away from me and made it that much harder for us to find her.

A scoff floated through the phone. “You should check a calendar. Generally Sunday comes after Saturday.”

“In our world, Sunday comes first,” Kingston muttered.
