Mei-Lee is ecstatic. She signs far too quickly for Eden to tell what’s going on, but her joyful smiles are a universal language.

Oh, she’s just the cutest, Mei-Lee says.Tell her I said thank you.

I turn to Eden. “She says thank you. And that you’re the cutest.”

Eden beams. “Tell her I asked for extra sweet and sour sauce. There’s also a habanero sauce packet in there, too, in case she wanted something spicy.”

I act as an interpreter, signing and translating back and forth between the two women. They haven’t known each other very long, but it’s nice to see how well they click. I would hate for the two closest people in my life to not get along.

This particular thought gives me pause.

It’s nothing short of the truth. Mei-Lee and Eden are the two people in the whole world that I spend most of my time with. I can’t tell if it’s nice or sad. Maybe a combination of both. I may have a lot of connections in Hollywood, but I wouldn’t describe my social circle as being particularly large. I like it that way. Less bullshit to deal with. Everybody wants something from me.

Eden isn’t like that. At the risk of sounding totally cliché, she isn’t like the others. Women have come and gone from my life, all in pursuit of what I could give them. They were never in it for me, but for my money or my fame or my influence. Eden… She doesn’t seem to care one way or another.

Maybe it’s because she knew me from before, back when I was just starting to see success. She’s never asked for anything, just a job and the chance to earn her keep. I’d gladly spoil her rotten if she wanted me to. Hell, Ienjoyit. Seeing her face light up when I buy her a new dress or treat her to dinner makes me feel good because I can provide. I can take care of her. Her grateful smiles and words of appreciation always go straight to my head. It helps that I know her thanks is always genuine.

The security people came to check on the camera out front, Mei-Lee explains. They said we shouldn’t run into any more trouble.

Good. Be vigilant, either way.

Is your little friend staying the night?

I’m hoping so.

Mei-Lee smirks.Whatever wild shenanigans you get up to, make sure you keep it on your side of the house, boy. I don’t want to walk in and see anything I shouldn’t.

I laugh and wave her off.Alright, fine.

“What did she say?” Eden asks me.

“That she’s going to bed soon,” I say, facing Mei-Lee so she can read my lips.

Good night, kids, she signs, winking at Eden over her shoulder before shuffling down the hall to enjoy her chicken nuggets.

“Do you think she knows about us?” Eden asks, sounding a tad self-conscious.

I snake a hand around her waist and pull her close. I feel selfish. Eden’s been by my side the whole day, yet I still can’t get enough. I adore how her body feels pressed against mine. Her warmth, her softness, her smell.

“I want to show you something,” I tell her.

“Is it approximately nine inches long?” she teases, pumping her eyebrows suggestively.

I roll my eyes, but I can’t help my grin. “More like eleven inches, but that’s not what I’m talking about.” I lace my fingers between hers and take her down the hall toward the basement stairs. “Not a lot of people have seen what I’m about to show you. Not even Mei-Lee.”

“Oh my God, you have a sex dungeon?”

“What on Earth gave you that idea?”

“Because you’re taking me to your basement and even yourhousekeeperisn’t allowed down here. Plus, you have that vibe.”

I make a face. “Dear God, I hope you’re joking. I would hate to give off a sex dungeon vibe.”

“I think it’s the suspenders you wear,” she says, bumping up against my arm as we walk. “It’s very sexy. Super domineering.”

I put my hand on the door, but don’t push through right away. “Ready?”

Eden nods. “It better be a bouncy castle. If it’s not a sex dungeon, I need something just as ludicrous.”
