“What… What are you doing?”

Tears sting in my eyes, but I can’t move. Can’t breathe. Can’t do anything but stand there in the doorway, watching him take our love and burn it all to the ground.

The woman twists, eyes widening as she sees me there. “Oh shit.” She starts to pull away, but Nero stops her, placing a hand on the back of her head.

“Don’t,” he says. “Keep going.”

I watch, aghast, as she does as she’s told, kissing her way down his stomach. He gives me a cruel smirk, over her head. “What did you think, Lily? That your pampered Princess routine can give a man what he really needs? You don’t even come close to satisfying me. And playing pretend gets old fast.”

I reel back, dizzy. I think I’m going to be sick. “You love me,” I say weakly, even though the evidence right in front of me tells a different story.

“Maybe once,” he shrugs. “Back when I was young and too cunt-struck to know what love is, but that was a long time ago. I know better now.”

“Nero, please…” I find myself begging.

“Please, what?” he gives a cruel laugh. “Aww, are you going to cry and pout, and beg me to stay? You’re too late, Princess. I’m already counting down the minutes until you get on that damn plane. Then finally I’ll be free to have some real fun. Isn’t that right, baby?” he asks the woman below him, deliberately wrapping her hair in his hands. “Be sure to take every inch,” he tells her. “Suck it good. Put on a real nice show for my wife here, yeah?”

The woman giggles, pushing his pants down. “Whatever floats your boat,” she coos.

Oh my God, she’s going to start blowing him right in front of me. I stagger back, tears swimming in my eyes.

“You’re awful,” I sob. My heart can’t take anymore.

I tried. I fought for him, for us. But it turns out that he’s right.

It’s over.

I turn and flee.
