"You met her?" Jessie pouts at me. "No fair. I haven't even met her yet. He's keeping her all to himself. He hasn't even let me talk to her on the phone!"
"I was with him in Silver Spoon Falls the day they ran into each other." I shake my head at the memory. "You would have thought he saw a damn ghost. I thought he was going to jump out of the SUV to chase her down."
"Aww." Jessie beams. "My brother is in love."
He isn't the only one, I think. I don't say it though. Not yet. When she hears those words from me, I don't want it to be with secrets and half-truths standing between us. I want to be free to tell her everything. I don't want her wondering if I mean it or if I'm still keeping shit from her. When I say those words, I want her to know that I've laid all of my truths bare to her and that I'll never keep anything from her again. She deserves that. Fuck, she deserves the world.
One way or another, I plan to give it to her.
"Um, while we're on the subject of my brother…" she says, shooting me a nervous glance out of the corner of her eye. "I don't think we should tell Risk about us yet."
I turn a dark glare on her.
"I'm on break all next week," she hurries to say. "And I'm supposed to stay at the ranch. If we tell him that we're together, he's going to flip out, Devil. Like majorly flip out. He won't let me come." She turns wide, pleading eyes up at me. "Please don't ask me to give up a full week with the people I care about most. I don't get that very often."
"Fuck," I growl, the hard knot in my stomach rapidly dissolving. She's right. He is going to flip his shit when he finds out about us. Chances are, he'll move heaven and earth to keep her off the ranch and away from me. If keeping my mouth shut for a week means getting to see her every day, means she gets to spend time with her brother…then I need to keep my goddamn mouth shut.
"Please," she pleads.
"Fine," I growl, giving in. "But you better find a way to be on my cock every night, Jessie. I'll crawl through your fucking window if you aren't naked and in my bed."
"You wouldn't," she hisses.
"Try me."
