I drop the phone on the nightstand, letting my head hang between my shoulders. Forsythe is a fucking asshole. Had he just listened at any point this week, he could have stopped this. But he didn't. He let it happen it.

"Devil?" Jessie sits up behind me, placing her hand on my shoulder. "What's wrong?"

"I have to go," I mutter, grabbing her hand and tugging it closer to press a kiss to the back of it. "There's a problem at the ranch."

"What kind of problem?"

"The messy kind." I climb from the bed and start yanking on my clothes.

"Don't," she whispers.

"Don't what?"

"Don't treat me like I'm a child. Don't keep things from me. Tell me what's going on."

"I'm not…" I trail off and blow out a breath. "Fuck. Satan's Savages made a play for Sin's girl. Things got bad. A few Savages died in the fallout."

"Oh my God," Jessie whispers.

"Like I said, it's messy."

"Is Risk…?" she trails off, sounding faint.

"He's fine, baby." I yank my shirt on over my head and cross back to the bed. "They try to keep Risk out of a lot of this shit because of you. They know he's the only family you have left. No one wants to take him away from you or see you end up alone in the world."

A little color creeps back into her cheeks, her expression easing slightly. "What about you? What are you going to do?"

"My job," I say grimly.

"You can't tell the police about this," she says, clinging to me. "The police won't be able to look the other way and just let this go. They'll expect you to turn on the Diamond Kings."

Fuck, she still doesn't know.

"Jessie."

"I'm serious, Devil," she says, scrambling to her knees as panic surges through her expression. "They'll expect you to tell them everything. You'll break your oath to the Diamond Kings. They won't forgive that. They won't be able to forgive that."

"Jessie, baby." I grab her hands, trapping her against me. "It's already too late for that."

"What…what are you talking about? What do you mean it's too late?"

"I'm not an informant, Jessie. I'm a cop."

She blinks up at me, her brows furrowing. "What? No, you're…" Her beautiful face scrunches up as her eyes runs across my face, reading my expression. Whatever she finds there seems to cut through the furor in her mind. Her eyes fill with tears and horror at the same time. "No, Creed," she whispers, shaking her head. "No."

"I'm a cop, Jessie."

"Creed, no." Tears slip down her cheeks, completely fucking wrecking me.

"It's true, little one. A little over a year ago, Satan's Savages started a trafficking operation. They buy women from men who owe them drug money, and then sell them to the highest bidder. I've been undercover for the last seven months, trying to find a way to get my hands on the names of everyone involved in the operation," I say quietly. "Unless we bring them all down, they're going to continue to hurt a lot of innocent people."

"You should have told me," she says.

"I know." I run my hand down her cheek, but she flinches away. "Jessie."

"I would have chosen you."

"Little one."
