“Well, he’s only sharing because he hasn’t tasted them yet. Wait until he realizes how good they are.” Bray laughs again.

I watch Theo close his eyes as he sinks his teeth into my mum’s brownie.Yep, they are that bloody amazing.“Mmm, wow.” Theo takes another one off the platter. I wait, wondering if he’ll still share with me, or if they really are just that good. “There is nothing I wouldn’t give up for you, dolcezza,” Theo says as he breaks the brownie in half before handing me a piece.

“Way to make me look bad, bro,” Bray pouts.

“Shut up and watch, Bray. Maybe you should take down some notes. Theo, you could give him lessons, right?” Reilly asks.

“Mum, we went and saw Dad this morning. He looks good; he’s excited to come home.” I change the topic.

“Wait, you both went? And you’re still standing?”

“Reilly, shut up. Dad happened to love Theo—a little too much actually. It was weird.”

“Yeah, he likes this one too.” Reilly points her thumb at Bray.

“Okay, coffee! Who wants coffee?” Mum spins towards the kitchen. She’s avoiding the conversation. I let it drop, deciding not to put a damper on our time together.

ChapterTwenty-Four

“Would you stop fidgeting already. You’re making me fucking nervous,” Neo whispers to me in Italian.

“I can’t help it. You know I was fucking ambushed on my way out of the country. God only knows what the fuck we’re about to walk into when we land. Except, this time, I have my fucking mother and wife to worry about.” I sigh. I can’t believe I let Holly weasel her way into coming with me. I should have put my foot down more firmly and insisted she stayed in fucking Sydney. But selfishly I let her accompany me, because I didn’t want to be without her. What if that same selfishness gets her fucking killed? I can’t live without her. Iwon’tlive without her.

“Do you really think we’re walking into trouble?” Neo asks.

“I don’t know,” I answer honestly. Because I really don’t fucking know what to expect, and it’s eating me up. My nerves are fucking frayed, and I’ve never been more on edge. If it was just us—me and my men—yeah, I’d be worried but I wouldn’t bethisfucking worried.

The fact that Holly’s with me, that’s what has me crawling out of my skin. I know it’s my fault. I let her come… Then again, there really is nolettingHolly do anything. A character trait I both admire and despise equally. Sometimes I think my life would be so much easier if she was a little wallflower, who would listen and follow my every command. On the other hand, I know I’d be bored shitless without her spunk and determination.

“You’ve made the appropriate arrangements for the estate?” I ask Neo. I’m pretty sure word has spread that I’m very much alive and not actually dead. And so, I have no intention of staying away from the family compound now. I haven’t heard a peep out of the other three, which is fucking strange, to say the least. Whatever the fuck they’re up to, I need to find out and make sure I’m one step ahead.

“Yeah, we’re all set. I’ve got three cars meeting us at the airfield.” Neo’s voice breaks through my thoughts.

“Good.” I nod. Then I stand and head towards the back of the jet, where Holly is sleeping.

“Theo, sit down for a minute.” My mother stops me on the way.

“Ma, how you holdin’ up?” I haven’t really had time for her lately, and I feel like a shitty son for what I’ve put her through.

“I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. How areyou? It’s a lot: taking over, running the family, doing it all so suddenly. I don’t want the stress to eat at you. You were a born leader, Theo.”

“Thanks, Ma, but I’m fine.”

“You’re not, but I also know you’re not going to talk to me about whatever it is that’s worrying you. You should talk to someone though.”

“I’m fine, Ma,” I repeat.

“I really like Holly. You did good choosing her. I’m sorry it took me a while to come around to the idea.”

I’m speechless. I knew my mother had grown fond of Holly, but I never expected to hear an apology. “Thanks. She’s something else. I don’t deserve her, but I’m sure as hell glad I have her.”

“You deserve everything, Theo. You’re a good person.” My mother leans forward and kisses both of my cheeks.

“Thanks, Ma.” I know I’m not a good person, but I’m not going to argue with my mother about that. I won’t win. “I’m gonna go check on Holly. We should be landing in about thirty.” I continue towards the bedroom. Holly tried to make my mother lie down when we first boarded, but Ma wouldn’t hear of it. She hates flights, and she especially hates sleeping on flights—something about how shedoesn’t want to miss when the plane goes down. Though, if you were to ask me, sleeping through your impending death seems like a good way to go.

I push the door open, closing it gently behind me. I know we only have thirty minutes until we land, but there’s a lot that can be done in thirty minutes. I haven’t had the pleasure of giving Holly her membership to the Mile High Club yet, and there’s no better time than the present.

I pull my shirt over my head, then toe off my shoes and socks. I’m left in just my sweats. Holly doesn’t stir, as I carefully pull the blankets away from her and gently roll her so she’s lying flat on her back, before settling myself between her legs. Lifting her dress, I’m pleasantly surprised to find she’s not wearing underwear. I smirk, recalling the numerous pairs I’ve destroyed in my haste to get at her pussy. It’s my favorite fucking drug: intoxicating, suffocating, and all-consuming in the most delicious of ways. My mouth waters as I look down at her opening. It’s slightly glistening with wetness, and I wish more than anything that I could jump into her dreams and know what she’s picturing right now.
