“Correction: I asked, nicely. And did you really just say you’re stealing shit from a mafia boss’s house?” T says from behind me in hisno nonsensetone.

“No, there was no question about it. You said:Reilly, your sister needs you. I’m sending a car to pick you up now.” Reilly does her bestGodfatheraccent, but totally butchers it, all while ignoring the bit about stealing my clothes.

“You had the option to say no,” T argues.

“Sure I did.” Reilly laughs. “Have you tried saying no to this one?” She then points to me.

“Yes, I have actually.”

“And how well did that end for you?”

“I’ve had more pleasurable waterboarding experiences,” T deadpans.

Bray, who’s been quiet throughout the ordeal, comes over and hugs me. “How you holding up, Hol? I hear you went and got yourself knocked up. I’d appreciate it if the morning sickness would stop though.”

“How did you know I’ve been sick?” I ask, confused.

“Because she has been too. We even went and took a test just to be sure.”

“Oh, sorry.” Though, secretly, I’m glad I’m not in this alone.

“It’s fine. We can throw up together in the morning. Come on, sit down and let me talk to my nephew.”

“It could be a girl, you know,” I tell Reilly.

“It’s not,” she says firmly. Reilly likes to think she’s somewhat of a clairvoyant when it comes to these sorts of things. She’s not, but I’ll humor her. “Hey, little guy, I’m your favorite Auntie Rye. You’ll love me most because I’m just like your mummy,” she whispers to my stomach, and my heart swells. I can’t help the smile that stays plastered across my face.

“I’ve had one of the guest suites set up for you. We move into our own house in two days.”

“You bought a new house? When? Where? You didn’t tell me?” Reilly excitedly pulls out her phone. “What’s the address? Let me look it up.”

T rattles off the details to her, and she screams when it comes up on her screen. Then he leans in and kisses my cheek. “And that’s my cue to leave. Bray, you want a drink?” he offers.

“Yeah, man, sure.” My brother-in-law mumbles something to Reilly, and her face reddens, before he follows Theo out the door.

“Okay, spill. What in the actual fuck, Holly? This is not a house. This is… I don’t know what this is, but it’s insane.”

“I know. It’s perfect, right?”

“It’s a fucking mansion, on mansion steroids. Holly, what could you possibly need a house so big for? When we drove up to this place, I thought I was at the wrong address, then I started seeing all the goons around in black suits and figured it had to be right. Bray totally wants to go to a hotel, by the way.”

“He doesn’t want to stay here?”

“He doesn’t think it’s safe.”

“This house is a fortress, Rye. It’s plenty safe. Plus, there are hidden little panic rooms everywhere. I’ll show you where some of them are.”

“If it’s such a fortress, why do you need panic rooms?”

“No idea. But they are there.”

“Okay, so how about a tour? Show me around. What do you do all day here?” she asks.

“Lately, I’ve been online furniture shopping. Buying stuff for the new house.”

“Oh, that I can help with. Spending your hubby’s money is going to be my new favorite pastime.”

I laugh. Of course it is.
