“There isn’t one. We’re going to hunt this fucker down and send him back to hell.”

“Great, so what if we’re walking into a trap right now? Alone.”

“No one knows what we’re doing. How can it be a trap?”

“It’s the fucking Clover. Guy’s fucked up, T. Don’t underestimate that level of crazy.”

“We’ve dealt with worse.” We drive the rest of the way in silence. I can tell the lack of information is killing him. He hates going into any situation blind. His hands tap relentlessly on the steering wheel. “Pull over, here. We’ll walk the rest of the way. How many you got?”

“Three, four extra mags. You?”

“Four, five extra.” I smirk.

Neo rolls his eyes. “Not everything is a fucking competition, coz. Just don’t fucking die on me. I refuse to be the one delivering that news to your wife again.”

“I’ll try not to,” I joke, but I have more reasons to live now than I ever have before. I have no intention of fucking dying. Neo and I wordlessly walk down the darkened path, the streetlights all busted out. Who the fuck lives in these parts? The place looks like it belongs in a third-world country, not the fucking United States of America. We get a few looks our way, and I notice some fucker pick up a phone as soon as he spots us. “We’ve been sighted.”

Neo cracks his knuckles and stretches his arms out. “Good, it’s been a while since I’ve had a good fight.”

“I kicked your ass two nights ago, asshole. Happy to offer you a repeat if you want.”

“Sure you did, if that’s what you have to tell yourself to sleep at night.”

“Just fucking be on—” I don’t get to finish my sentence as something knocks me over the back of the head. I watch Neo slump to the ground, right before I follow suit.

* * *

The smell hits me first, then the throbbing in my temples. I go to bring my hand up to my head, to inspect for injury, but there’s no fucking give. Fuck. Keeping my neck craned and my eyes closed, I can hear the distant murmurs. I do a mental check of my body: my ankles are bound, my hands are bound, and I’m sitting on something hard. Fuck, I’m tied to a fucking chair. These fuckers tied me to a fucking chair. My first thought is Neo. I remember seeing him go down too. I can’t hear him. He’s either not in the same room, or he’s still out of it… or pretending to be, just like me.

“Can’t we just fuck ‘em up already?” someone yells.

“Boss said to keep them here, in one piece, until he gets back.”

At that, I lift my head and smirk at the asshole. I don’t say anything. I don’t have to.

“Ah, look who’s awake, the almighty Theo Valentino. Got yourself into a bit of a strife here, mate.”

“I’m not you’re fucking mate, cocksucker,” I spit at him. I spot Neo to the left of me, his body still slumped over. His chest is moving though—thank fucking God.I can’t do anything to prevent the blow that lands on my cheek. So I smile and embrace the pain. These fuckers can try all they want, but they’ll never fucking break me. This isn’t the first time I’ve found myself tied to a fucking chair. My fingers work at the rope around my wrists. They’re fucking amateurs. I already know how I’m going to get my hands free. But I’ll wait. I want their fucking boss.

“I can’t wait for the boss to get here. Heard he’s got a gift for us. A nice little redhead for us all to enjoy… while you watch.”

My mind goes to where I left Holly, in bed. There’s no way they have her. There’s no way they would have gotten into that fucking house. “Sure, whatever you say.” I smirk, calling their bluff. They’re looking to rattle me. As much as I want to fucking kill these fuckers, all fucking three of them, I won’t. I’ll wait, on the off-chance that bastard has gotten his filthy fucking hands on my wife. My stomach twists at the mere thought. Noah Kelly is one sick bastard. There’s no way she’ll come back from that unscathed.

I look to Neo, urging the fucker to wake the fuck up. I see his right eye blink. He’s awake. These three fucking idiots have grossly underestimated us. The Clover has underestimated us. To leave us tied up here, with only three fucking men. He obviously doesn’t know who the fuck he’s dealing with. Bring it on. I have so much fucking rage to expel, and who better to take it out on than the fucking four-leaf Clover himself. That bastard’s luck is about to run dry, right as I hang him upside down and slit his shamrock-loving throat.

“He’s been watching you for weeks. You think he didn’t know you’d come tonight? You’ve got a fucking rat. Someone in your own family sold you out.” One of the guys laughs.

“Yeah, well, I guess you won’t mind giving me a name, considering I’m not gonna make it out of here alive anyway.”

“Glad to see you know the situation you’ve gotten yourself into. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to take real good care of that pretty wife of yours.” He smirks in my face.

I laugh as I spit at him. “Good luck with that.” Holly is not a weak, little, timid thing. She may look small. She may look like she can’t and won’t fight for herself. But I pity the fuckers if they actually do have her. If they bring her here, there will be blood spilled, and it won’t be ours.

Another fist lands on my face, and I see fucking stars. Fuck me, how about a little creativity? The blows to the head are getting old and my temples fucking pound. I need to stay conscious. I need to stay alert. I can’t get the fuck out of here if I let these bastards knock me out again.

“Boss is on his way up,” one of the Irish fucks announces, looking at his phone.

I start the process of loosening the ropes around my wrists. I can still feel the blade at my ankle when I move my leg. Like I said, fucking amateurs. It will take me precisely ten seconds to retrieve that knife and cut myself free. Neo finally decides to make himself known. “Good, I was starting to get fucking bored listening to you assholes.”
