“I wanna know,” Sam pipes in.

“Well, I read a lot of books on my kindle, and I just thought that this must be what the heroines of reverse harem books get. Two men doing nice shit for them.” I shrug my shoulders. I feel Josh’s body stiffen next to me.

“No! Not a fucking chance in Hell, Emily. You know I’d do anything for you. But sharing you in some fucked-up, reverse harem shit ain’t ever going to fucking happen. Fuck. I want to shoot him for just putting that thought into your head.” Josh points to Sam, who is standing in front of us with his mouth hanging open.

I burst out laughing. I know that Josh is not the sharing type. Thank God for that, because I certainly do not want to be shared. “Eww, I don’t want you to share me with anyone, idiot. It was a fleeting thought about the books.”

“You’re trying to get me killed, Emily. I knew it! You hate me. It’s my cooking, isn’t it? Just tell me. Be honest,” Sam rambles out.

“Your cooking is fine. I mean, it’s not as good as Josh’s, but it’s good. And I don’t hate you. I don’t even know you.” I take hold of Josh’s hand, just in case he does have any ideas of shooting his only friend.

“Well, I’m out. Enjoy your night.” I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone walk out of a room so fast before.

I giggle. “You should really stop threatening to shoot your friends, Josh. You won’t have any left.”

“I don’t need any friends. I already have the best one right here.” Josh stands up, pulls out his phone, presses a few buttons and “Behind Blue Eyes” by Limp Bizkit starts playing.
