“Joshua, you have your own vows you want to share with Emily?” the celebrant says.

“Emily, from the moment you sat down at my lunch table, I knew you were different. Then you opened your mouth and started rambling on, and I knew you were going to turn my world upside down in the best ways possible. I didn’t know or understand the feelings you provoked in me at first, but now I know that was the day I met my soulmate. You make me a better person, Emmy. For so long, I was lost, until you found and completed me. You are my beginning and end. You’re the cream to my cookie, the Tam to my Tim, and the toast to my Vegemite. I promise to love, cherish and worship you every day for the rest of our lives.” Josh places a solid gold band on my finger.

“Emily, do you have vows you’d like to share with Joshua?” the celebrant asks.

“Joshua, the moment I first saw you, you took my breath away, and still do every time I look at you. I am the luckiest person on earth because I’m loved by you. I promise that you will always be the cookie to my cream, the Tim to my Tam, and the Vegemite to my toast. You are the best part of me. I promise to love you unconditionally for as long as we both shall live.” I manage to get through most of what I wanted to say. With tears in my eyes, I slide the ring on his finger.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”

Joshua has his lips on mine before the celebrant finishes his declaration. His kiss sends a fiery need throughout my body. This is a kiss that I will be telling our grandchildren about, the kind of kiss that inspires love songs. Everything fades into the background as I lose myself in all that is Joshua.

Josh pulls away first. “Are you ready to begin our happily ever after, Mrs. McKinley?”

“More than anything else in the world,” I reply.
