"Elena isn’t coming back tonight. So I will stay with you." He walked over to the other side of the bed, resting against the headboard.

I leaned up next to him. "He's right, isn't he? My dad?"

"About what?"

"There is no room for love in this world."

"I don’t know."

I leaned over, resting my head on his shoulder. "I know you and Uncle Marco love me. But you can’t let my dad know. Marco hides it but I can tell, you have to tell him to hide it better."

He kissed the top of my head. "Okay, I'll tell him. Sleep, I am not going anywhere."

I pulled the covers up tight to my chest, hugging them as if my life depended on it. I closed my eyes and tried not to think about Max, but it wasn't working. I felt my chest heave as I sobbed on my pillow and Nick rubbed my back until at some point sleep finally found me.

I woke up. Nick was next to me, asleep in the bed. I got up and used the bathroom before walking over, staring out the window at the training complex. Nick stirred in the bed, yawning and stretching. He climbed out and walked over to me, putting his arm around me. "You okay?"

I looked at him and shook my head. I turned to look back out the window. "I need your help. I want to start training with you and the other boys."

"You know the rules. Girls are not allowed."

"My dad is right. It is time I grow up."

“Alora, you're only 10, you don't need to grow up just yet.”

I looked up at him, pushing back tears, forcing them to stay down, not allowing them to stain my cheeks. “Please Nick.”

"Alright. I will go talk to my dad. See what he thinks. I'll be back later." He hugged me, then left the room.

I stared at my reflection in the glass, barely recognizing the face staring back at me. Yesterday I was a carefree ten-year-old girl. Today I felt anything but. I reached into my pocket, pulling out the collar and blood-stained handkerchief. I had shoved it into my pocket before Elena picked me up. I walked to my vanity, pulling open the middle drawer. “There is no love in this world,” I repeated his words to myself. I pushed them to the very back, squeezed them, then shut the drawer.
