His smile was tight, and she knew he wasn’t going to answer. ‘So many questions for this time of the morning.’

She wasn’t going to be pushed away, though. Part of his building her up the way he had the night before was renewed confidence, and she felt it in her bones. ‘I want to understand you.’ She threw his words back at him, making it obvious that she was simply going tit for tat.

‘There is not much to understand.’

A half-smile curved her lips. ‘You’re right. Yours sounds like a perfectly typical childhood.’

He walked towards her with a look on his face that didn’t invite further questions. His hand lifted to her—his—shirt, undoing the top button, a challenge in his eyes, a look of mockery playing about his lips, as though daring her to continue her line of questioning while he undressed her.

‘Will you stay naked today?’

‘Will you stay with me if I do?’ She hadn’t planned to ask that. It hadn’t even occurred to her to ask, but she didn’t regret the question. It seemed kind of fair.

‘No.’ His response was just as automatic. ‘I can’t.’ He softened the rejection with a simmering look, and her heart completed an energetic somersault.

Why did he make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world? She struggled to think straight when he touched her and, damn it, he knew it. Just the simple act of removing the shirt from her body caused her knees to tremble. Desire stirred in the pit of her stomach. She sank her teeth into her lower lip and when his eyes dropped to the gesture, she knew she was in trouble.

He crooked his finger, pulling her close, and she took the step—just one—with a throbbing, twisting feeling somewhere near her heart.

Their bodies brushed, hers naked, his practically, and she shivered all over now.

‘Cold?’ But a knowing look glinted in his eyes.

‘I—’

Before she could answer, he lifted a hand to her nipple, rolling it between his forefinger and thumb. She felt it harden, felt arrows dart through her, and she tilted her head back, staring at the ceiling as stars flooded her eyes. His touch burned through her, and then his other hand moved between her legs, brushing her sex, so she jerked her face forward, her eyes haunted when they met his.

‘You’re trying to distract me,’ she bit out from beneath clenched teeth, her own hands digging into his shorts, pushing them lower, then removing them until he stood completely naked.

He didn’t deny her accusation, simply moved his fingers faster, so she was riding a wave, faster and faster, and she reached for his shoulders, digging her nails into the flesh there, until he brought his head down and kissed her, swallowing her enthusiasm, breathing it in. ‘Am I?’

She didn’t understand. She was drowning. Pleasure threatened to rip her apart at the seams.

‘Alejandro...’

She felt him smile against her mouth, felt his hardness, and sheer longing was a blade in her side. She swore hungrily, pushing at his shoulders, hard, surprising them both, because he stumbled and then she was drawing him to the floor—or perhaps he was leading her, she couldn’t tell; Sienna was no longer thinking straight, nor wobbly, she wasn’t thinking at all.

He lay on his back and she straddled him, desperate hunger a beast within her.

He went to say something but she kissed him, turning the tables and devouring his words for a change as her body took him deep inside, her muscles tightening around him in eager, grateful welcome. She moved as her instincts dictated, her body’s requirements shaping her movements, so she lifted and dropped and groaned as pleasure spun through her, and then Alejandro was moving his body, rolling her onto her back and pulling out of her, so she whimpered at his absence. Then his mouth connected with her sex and all of the pleasure she’d been feeling, all of the build-up, burst in one spectacular hail of stars. She tore her fingers through his hair, lifting her hips as wave after wave of warmth spread through her.

Afterwards, she lay in the centre of the boxing ring, eyes closed, breath rushed, for the several moments it took to pull herself back together, and then to realise that he hadn’t experienced the same euphoric release she had. She pushed up onto her elbows, eyes open, one quick glance confirming that he was still rock-hard. She stared at him, confused, and undeniably hurt. It was so easy for her insecurities to creep in, even when he did such an amazing job of making her feel stunning and desirable.

‘I—You—’

He moved closer to her, stroking her cheek, his own slashed dark with colour. She stared at him, fascinated, his beauty powerful enough to take her breath away. ‘No, I didn’t.’

‘But—’

She couldn’t ask the question that was whispering through her brain. Didn’t you want to?

She swallowed instead, looked away. Gently, he drew her face back to his.

‘I wanted to.’ Had he read her mind? How did he know her secret fear? ‘But I have never had unprotected sex with a woman, and, no matter how badly I wanted to lose myself in you just now, I will not take that risk.’

She stared at him, not understanding, until the penny finally dropped. She lifted a hand to her mouth, shock making speech, momentarily, impossible.

‘I didn’t even think—’
