“Who sent them?” I snap, squashing them in my fist, and even though I already know, I wonder if she will tell the truth. The whole class is staring at us, when I talk everyone listens. They want to gossip about it later or use my words against me.

“Cuyler sent one, and the other was …”

“My uncle.” She nods, and anger radiates through my body, even after claiming her as my own, my best friend and uncle just swoop in and try to get involved. I stand, kicking out my chair, causing it to fall to the floor.

Storming to the front of the class, I push my uncle against the whiteboard. “Leave my girlfriend alone.”

Sax stands and claps his hands, riling everyone else up. I forgot the dick was in this class. He leans back in his chair and puts his stupid boots up onto the table, his legs crossed at the ankles. I take a step back and storm from the class before I do something really fucking stupid.

I dial my father’s number as I leave the class, I can’t do this anymore. I won’t, playing this game with her puts a target on her back. I want out or I want him gone.

“What do you want, Diesel? I’m busy.”

“I want Emory gone or I’m out.”

“You don’t get to make demands, son. Emory is useful to me where he is and he will find out why, soon enough.” I don’t bother arguing that I want out. What’s the damn point, he would never let me, and it’s just my anger fuelling me anyway.

“What the fuck, dad, can’t you see what he’s doing?”

“Stop behaving like a child. Play your part, and you have nothing to worry about.”

“Fine,” I seethe, ending the call when I see Cyrus walking towards me nervously.

“Can we talk?” She asks hesitantly.

“Why bother?” I snap, kicking the wall beside me, still reeling from my call with my father. I should have known better that he wouldn’t be on my side.

“Because I can’t help that other people sent me flowers. I’m sorry it upset you, and I didn’t tell you. I would have later, class isn’t exactly the time to talk about your uncle when he’s the teacher, and Cuyler is just my friend, he was being funny.”

“I’m going to kill him.” She places her hands on my chest, the feel of her small hands calms me down a little.

“Which one?” She jokes, looking up at me.

“Both.” I snarl.

“I’m with you, why are you so threatened by them?”

“Because they answer to me, you’re mine, and I won’t let them take you.”

“I don’t belong to you, you do know that.”

“You don’t get a choice!” I yell, making her jump and regretting it instantly. “Everyone wants this, you have it, and this is how it works.”

Her face goes red, and I know she is about to blow up. This is the Cyrus from when we first met, the one who doesn’t give a shit who I am and speaks her mind.

“I don’t get a choice? How is this for a choice, screw you, Diesel.” She reaches into her bag, pulling out two roses and throwing them in my face before she turns her back on me.

“You already did that.” I childishly call out to her, but she doesn't turn around, she just raises her hands above her head and flips the bird. This day started so well, I knew it was only a matter of time before I cracked and fucked up. When everyone tells you someone is a certain way, some of it has to be true.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Cyrus

Luna knew something was off at second break when Diesel was MIA. No one else said anything, and it isn’t like they didn’t notice. She cornered me in Bio, the guys skipped class too which is odd.

I fill Luna in on what happened, how I got three roses and how Diesel lost it when he found out.

“Seriously, you come here and land the Alpha himself, plus Cuyler has a crush on you, and I think that Mr. Briar has a thing for you, and he is hot and can’t be older than thirty. Do you have a teacher fantasy because this could be your chance?” She laughs, and I get it, he is fantasy material if you’re into that kind of thing.
