Either way, I will get the damn girl this time.

Chapter Thirty-Two

Cyrus

I don’t know if I can trust Diesel, but after all my calls with Alex, I don’t think I’m left with much choice. I don’t want to be a pawn in these games and be married off to just anyone. I also don’t want to ruin Zeke’s memory, but by allowing Malcom to blackmail me, isn’t that just falling into the same pattern of behaviour that I despise?

My father agreed to come over to Briar Bay today, and I think I’m actually excited to see him. I’m not fully on board with the marriage to Celine, but if she makes him happy, the least I can do is try. It hurts like hell to have someone replace my mother, even though I know no one ever would be able to.

A door slamming has me getting to my feet and walking to my bedroom door. “Fuck you, Wilder.”

Luna. I open my door, and she is racing down the hall with Wilder following her. I expected her to have confronted him days ago. I follow behind because I don’t trust him.

“Please listen to me,” he begs her. “I couldn’t tell you.”

“Couldn’t or wouldn’t? Because from where I’m standing, being an Alpha means more to you than me.”

She makes eye contact with me, and Wilder follows her line of sight. His eyes narrow at me, and he turns his attention my way. “You,” he seethes. “This is all your fault, you couldn’t keep your mouth fucking shut.”

He stalks towards me, and I back up. “Wilder, no!” Luna yells.

“Fuck.” Someone swears and I blink, and Wilder is on the ground being pinned by Rebel.

“What the fuck,” Rebel says, looking up at me. “Where is Diesel?”

“He is right here,” Diesel says, stepping out of the elevator in nothing but a low hanging pair of shorts. My mouth waters at the sight. I know I’m pathetic, and I still realise that he could be playing me, but I just hope that he can see that no matter how much he pushes me away that I will still fight for him. Because I have figured him out, he lashes out quickly from fear, and deep down, he just wants someone to love him and be loyal to him. Loyalty in our world doesn’t come easily, our friends from a young age are merely future business associates, families we can rub shoulders with.

He stalks over to where Rebel has Wilder pinned down. “Let him up.”

Wilder jumps to his feet and stands toe to toe with Diesel. “She fucking told Luna.”

Diesel looks at me, and I open my mouth, but it’s Luna who speaks first. “She didn’t tell me anything. She told me to talk to Wilder and demand the truth, and it has taken me days to work up the courage. I was too afraid to lose him again. You’re all a bunch of liars, you have all sat around and talked shit about Cyrus and her being a liar, yet she is the only one with the balls to stand up to you and tell the truth.”

“You don’t understand what this means, Luna.” Wilder adds, looking slightly defeated.

She crosses her arms. “It means I have a family.”

“I’m your family. Your biological father is dead, Luna, he didn’t want to know you.”

“No,” she whispers.

“You have a cousin,” Diesel says, looking at Luna. “She is around the same age as us and could probably use some family herself right about now.”

“What’s her name?”

“Jolie. Her situation isn’t like ours, but your fathers owned a company that genetically modified embryos. Jolie has two teams who she is with romantically. They also have twins. I will call one of her boyfriends and pass on your details.”

“Thank you, maybe Cyrus is good for you after all. I never thought I would see the day that Diesel Briar is nice to anyone other than himself.”

Diesel snorts at her comment. “Don’t get too excited, I’m sure the asshole is still there.”

Diesel looks back at Wilder. “Sort this shit out with your girl, but this isn’t over between us.”

Wilder nods, and he tries to take Luna’s hand, but she rips it from his grip and storms towards the elevator. He follows behind her, like a lost puppy looking for his owner.

Diesel pulls me into his arms. “How did the call with your father go?”

“Great, he agreed to fly over today. I told him that I missed him and wanted to introduce him to my boyfriend. I didn’t tell him you wanted to talk about your father, just in case his loyalty to him outweighs me asking him to give you a chance. If I do it in person, we have a shot to sway him.”
