Do you, Rick? Is that your thing?

Rick had the good graces to look sheepish. “No comment.”

“Come on,” TJ said. “Lots of digs means lots of women. You must have some juicy stories.”

Dusty held up her hand. “Enough. I don’t need to hear hookup stories from either of you. I’ve put up with too much of that misogynistic bullshit.”

“Fine,” TJ said, “but I can’t believe Grant’s being such a killjoy. Why’s he so tightly wound?”

“Maybe because of his dad? It couldn’t be easy growing up in his shadow.” At the group’s curious looks, Dusty added, “You’ve heard of him, right? Dr. Olaf Nilsson, distinguished professor at Princeton? He’s not an archaeologist, but he’s huge in the world of Classics.”

“He’s supremely arrogant, too,” Juno said. “I met him once and was not a fan. I can see where Grant gets his sparkling personality.”

“I didn’t even make the connection. That’s a lot for Grant to live up to.” Olivia’s graduate seminar on ancient Roman literature had featured two of Dr. Nilsson’s publications.

“It’s still no excuse for being a dick,” TJ muttered.

“Whatever the case, let’s try to stay on Grant’s good side,” Stuart said. “He’s not someone you’d want to piss off.”

“He hates being challenged,” Rick added. “And he’s not the type to let go ofanything.”

Rick’s words sparked Olivia’s curiosity. What had happened to cause so much animosity between him and Grant?

As the others complained about Grant’s expectations, Olivia kept quiet. Though she wouldn’t have admitted it out loud, she liked the idea of setting boundaries on their personal lives. This way, she wouldn’t be at risk of temptation. While following the rules was a lot less exciting than breaking them, fewer risks meant fewer repercussions.
