“You’re welcome to take my place,” Kick offered.

Tryst smiled and squeezed his nephew’s shoulder. “Perhaps she’ll bid on me next year.”

I wasn’t the only one in the group who raised his eyebrows. “Are you really thinking of being in the auction?” I asked.

“You know Alex. Now that Brix is off the market, she’ll need someone to pester.”

“But would you do it?” Kick asked.

“Perhaps yes, perhaps no.”

“If you’ll excuse us, gentlemen,” I said when Tryst’s eyes met mine. I waited for everyone to leave before I motioned for him to take a seat. “What’s on your mind?”

“Are you aware your father purchased Reeve’s winery when he almost lost it to bankruptcy?”

I studied Tryst. “Reeve?”

He nodded. “Seraphina’s father.”

“I had no idea.” I knew my dad and the way he did business. I had no reason to think he would’ve been any less than fair. “How is this relevant?”

“Perhaps you should ask your father.”
