“To be honest, last night was the first night I slept straight through. I think it’s because knowing you were going to help us was such a relief. In other words, I’d like you to stay for a bit.”

“Nice choice,” I said when I saw her open a bottle of Los Caballeros Cabernet Sauvignon.

“I’m all out of Ridge.”

“It’s okay. I prefer Brix’s anyway.”

“No, you don’t, and I really am all out. Look.” She pointed to a vase that held wine corks. Many of them bore the Ridge Winery logo.

“What’s your favorite?” I asked.

“The Vineyard Twenty-Seven Blend.”

I raised a brow. “Not many people know that’s one of ours.”

She shrugged a shoulder. “I do.”

“It’s not easy to get, either.”

“I know that too.” She poured two glasses and handed one to me.

“I may have a bottle or two in my cellar.”

“I would never ask you to give it up for me.”

“What if we drank it together?”

“It should be a special occasion,” she said, leading me out to the small patio.

“We’ll drink it with Luisa when we find her.”
