“We’ll be following a different protocol for the remainder of our time here,” I said while, at the same time, messaging the guys in the other apartments, asking if they were available to get together briefly. Within a few minutes, we’d assembled in the common area as Press suggested.
“When we left the restaurant tonight, I caught someone photographing Seraphina and me.”
“It could simply be because you’re staying here,” said Press.
Beau nodded. “It happens.”
“I’d still prefer we take every precaution when leaving and returning to the building. Is there another exit?”
“There are three other ways to go in and out.”
“We’ll use them randomly. Also, I don’t want Sera here by herself. I’ll remain at the apartment during tomorrow’s briefing.”
“I’ll stay,” said Dalton. “It would make more sense.”
I agreed and said so after Sera nodded in agreement too.
“We’ll take a walk later and see if anyone is staking out the place,” offered Snapper, pointing to Kick and himself.
“I’ll check the apartment’s security footage as well,” said Press.
Once everyone left, I walked over to Seraphina and put my hands on her shoulders. “Are you ready to call it a night?”
“I am.”
“Would you like—”
“Yes,” she answered before I could finish my sentence.
I smiled. “Go ahead, then.”
“Go ahead with what?”
“Whatever it is you thought I was going to ask.”
“What were you going to ask?”
“If you wanted to shower before going to bed.”
“I would.”
“Go ahead, then,” I said, motioning toward the bathroom.
“Wait. Don’t you want to know what I was saying yes to?”
“A bedtime story?”
Sera smiled. “Something like that. Would you mind, I mean, would it be too weird if we…”
“Shared a bed?”
“Yes. That. Too weird?”
I moved my hands to her waist. “We both know there’s a strong attraction between us. We also know the timing isn’t right for us to explore that attraction. So, no. It isn’t too weird. It’s about helping you get through the next few hours, the next few days, in one of the only ways I can. I will hold you while you fall asleep, Sera. And if you decide you want me to, I’ll tell you a bedtime story.”
After we’d both showered and got into bed, Sera fell to sleep within minutes of her head hitting the pillow. It took me slightly longer, only because I kept waking myself to make sure she was still asleep. Finally, I couldn’t fight it any longer.
