I shook my head, but before he could pull away, I put my hand on the back of his neck and kissed him. I pressed my tongue against his lips, and he opened his mouth to mine. Rather than remaining passive, Noah’s kiss was demanding, his breathing ragged. When his hand slid down my back to my ass, I pressed against him on my own. Noah brought his other hand up to my neck, holding me as his mouth made love to mine. “I missed you,” he said again, scattering kisses across my jawline and down the side of my neck.

“Wait,” I gasped when I felt his hands on the buttons of my shirt.

He rested his forehead against mine. “Sorry. I got carried away.”

“Don’t apologize. I want this as much as you do.”

“But first…”

“Yes. First, we have a lot to talk about. Are you sure it’s safe to do it here?”

“Give me your keys.”

“To my car?” I asked.

“Yes.”

When I handed them to him, he went out the patio door and set them under a pot that he placed right on the edge of the concrete. Then he sent a text to someone.

“What was that all about?”

“A friend is leading the guy who’s been following you on a wild goose chase.”

“Who’s this friend? Alex?”

He laughed and shook his head. “You haven’t met her yet. Her family and my family have been friends for years. She’s visiting from Australia. Oh, and she’s Beau Barrett’s girlfriend. She looks more like you than Alex does.”

I doubted that was a compliment, since Alex was tall, thin, and could have been a model. Actually, maybe she had been.

“Wait. Beau’s girlfriend?”

“More like childhood sweetheart, but yeah. I’m pretty sure when she’s here, they pick up where they left off. Why?”

“I’m afraid my sister has developed a crush on him. He’s been so…But then so has…” I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter. Luisa is in no position to develop a crush on anyone. It’s just transference anyway. Both Beau and Press have been so good to her. I’ll never make it up to them. Or you, for that matter.” I looked around my apartment, wondering if I’d be able to set foot in it again without feeling as though I was being watched.

“Ready?” Noah asked.

“Uh, sure. Where are we going?”

“I’d take you to my place on See Canyon Road, but you’ve already been there. It isn’t any different than the last time.”

“Noah, as much as I’d like to spend time with you, I really need to go to Seahorse.”

He shook his head. “I stopped there first. Your mother and Press assured me Luisa was fine. When I asked her directly, she asked me to please not let you come up there tonight.”

“Tonight? I can’t be gone all night. She needs—”

Noah stopped me with a kiss. A toe-curling, panty-melting, heart-stopping kiss.

“I wouldn’t mind returning to See Canyon,” I said when he pulled away and looked into my eyes.

“Are you hungry?” he asked once we were in his car.

I nodded, wishing I wasn’t but knowing if I didn’t eat soon, I’d get cranky.

“Good.”

I was confused when he drove straight to his house without stopping at either a store or a restaurant.
