Nothing more.

“Do you want the truth?” Ava said in a hushed tone.

I cocked my head at her. “That would be preferable.”

“I like them.” A smile lit up her face. “I never felt wanted by anyone until I met your brothers.”

That wasn’t what I was expecting.

Interesting.

I logged out of the computer system and stuffed the keycard into the inner pocket of my suit jacket. Nodding at the opening between the tables, I gestured for Ava to move forward. She strolled down the aisle, teasing me with her perfect ass. I hadn’t been with a woman in a long time.

Didn’t have the fucking time.

We repeated the same process with the other pit areas in the casino. When Vinnie Morelli noticed me, he flagged me over to his station.

“I think we got ourselves a card counter, boss.”

Vinnie’s eyes lasered on a dark-haired man dressed in an oversized sweater and dark jeans. He didn’t look like he could afford his bets and kept upping the ante. The man was either a terrible player or trying to cheat us. Either way, he was about to get tossed from the casino.

“How do you know he’s counting?” Ava asked.

“We use a computer vision system with facial recognition software to track the known counters,” Vinnie explained. “He’s not on the list, but I’ve seen him around a lot over the past few weeks.”

“Is he doing something wrong?” Ava wet her lips with her tongue, and it was distracting. “What caught your attention?”

Vinnie tossed a hundred-dollar chip at Ava, which she caught with one hand. “All casinos use RFID radio tags embedded in the chips. It sends a signal from the chips to our software.”

I took the chip from her hand and removed the knife from my pocket. Then I slid the blade beneath the center of the chip to pop it open for her to see the RFID chip. “We track the movement of the chips.”

Mouth hanging open, she looked at me, then Vinnie. “So you can track the chips you’ve given me over the years?”

He nodded to confirm, a smile on his lips. “You never cashed them.”

“Nope.” She returned his gesture, beaming with delight. “I like collecting them.”

I stuffed the chip into my pocket. “The radio frequency lets us track how much each blackjack player is betting per hand and how much they cashed out. Most card counters don’t have the money to make large bets. So they’ll take some of their winnings home and come back over multiple sessions.”

“Huh,” Ava whispered. “That’s serious dedication.”

“They’re fucking degenerates,” I told her. “This is how these losers make a living.”

“By scamming you,” she muttered, watching the man over bet on his next hand. “Technically, it’s not illegal to count cards.” She peeked up at me with those big brown eyes. “Right?”

I nodded. “Yes, that’s true.”

“So you’re not allowed to take their chips or detain them.”

“Also true,” I shot back. “But you forget who they’re dealing with, Miss Vianello. That shit doesn’t fly in my casino. You steal from me, and I break your fucking hands and legs.”

Her eyes widened at my comment.

I said it to gain her attention, to make her realize there were consequences for stealing from my family. The Lucianos were the only Mafia family worth billions of dollars, and I planned on holding onto my legacy. Men like the asshole over-betting at the table across from us were like cancer. We had to cut them out, or they would infect others.

“So, what are you going to do to him?”

“I’m waiting until he cashes out.” Vinnie shoved his hands into his pockets and looked down at her. “Then security will follow him to his car and ensure he never returns.”
