Lips parted, he brushed my cheek with his fingers. “I missed you, Ava.”

Nico kissed me, capturing each of my moans with his mouth. Between kisses, I whispered his name and relaxed beneath him, overcome by the intense ripples of pleasure spreading down my arms. He sucked my lip into his mouth and kissed me like he wanted to drain the air from my lungs.

When his legs trembled, he kissed me again and muttered a few curses in Italian as he came.

“I’m going to do right by you, Ava.” Nico raised my hand to his mouth and kissed my skin. “I promise. You’ll never have to compete with another woman. I’m sorry I made you feel like you had to.”

I curled up on my side and lay my head on his muscular chest.

He ran his fingers up and down my back. “Close your eyes, little sparrow. You need your rest.”

AVA

Someone knocked on my apartment door. I figured it couldn’t have been any of the Luciano brothers. They never bothered to knock before entering my place. My guys barged in here whenever they damn well pleased.

I swung open the door, surprised to find a man in a suit standing in the hallway with a black box with a pink ribbon on the top.

“Miss Vianello,” he said with a smile.

“Yes, that’s me.”

He handed over the box that was so large I had a hard time grabbing it. “Have a good night.”

I set the box on the dining room table and tugged on the pink bow. Inside was a strapless black Valentino gown with an invitation on top. After I appraised the dress for a moment, I read the invitation.

You are cordially invited to the Twenty-Fifth Annual Benefactors of the Boardwalk Gala.

The Portofino Hotel and Casino was hosting the event. I wondered which of the brothers had sent me the invitation until I looked at the inner flap of the envelope.

Attendance is not optional.

That fucking asshole.

After he made me dig a grave in the middle of the night and nearly gave me a heart attack, he expected me to attend his stupid party.

Fuck him.

I dropped the note on the table and rushed into the hallway, blowing past two guards on my way to his door.

“Miss Vianello,” one man said.

Ignoring him, I balled my hand into a fist and banged on Dante’s door.

“Miss Vianello.” Another guard moved to my side. “Mr. Luciano is not taking visitors.”

“I don’t give a damn what Mr. Luciano wants,” I fired back as the front door opened.

“You better care,” Dante said with venom in his tone.

“How dare you?” I got in his face. “You have some nerve inviting me to your party after what you did to me.”

Drinking from the glass in his hand, he surveyed me from beneath his dark brows. “I take it you didn’t like the dress I chose for you.”

“No, I like it just fine. It’s beautiful.” I glared at him, nostrils flaring. “You’re missing the point, Dante.”
