“You just asked me to marry you. But you won’t fuck me?” I pushed his hand off my thigh. “Get away from me. I’m sick of your mind games.”

Ignoring my request, he moved his hand back to my leg and tapped his fingers. “I’ve done a lot to protect you. To keep you alive. Things I wouldn’t do for another woman.”

“I know you wanted to fuck me back then. You still do. So what’s the problem?”

“Sex is just sex.” He slid the pad of his thumb across my bottom lip. “Nothing more. It’s a physical response to a necessary bodily function.”

“That’s a strange way of putting it.”

He shrugged. “It’s the truth.”

“You’re so mean, Luca. I can’t keep doing this with you. The back and forth, tit for tat, is very draining.”

“If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be here right now. I signaled the Knights to locate you. Be glad I’m in control of this family, baby girl. Because as long as I am, you will never have to worry about a fucking thing.”

“Luca.” I sighed. “I can’t stop hating you overnight. You need to show me another side. There has to be some good in you.”

“And you think Bash is good? How about Marcello or Damian?” His wicked laughter filled the air. “They are no better than me. None of my brothers are saints. Wait until you see what you’ve signed up for, Drea. You won’t like any of us.”

“Maybe not. But I’ve seen other sides to your brothers. They let me in when you do nothing but shut me out.”

He folded his arms across his chest, rage shaking through him. “So you would marry one of my brothers over me?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. After last night, I don’t want to choose. I’m with all four of you.”

His dark eyebrows raised. “You want me to make you come, but you don’t want to marry me?”

“I’m attracted to you, Luca. Most women are.” He grinned at that. “It means nothing other than my body likes you. My heart? Not so much. My head? Not at all. I’m not ready to let go of the past. You haven’t let go either. Marcello stopped being cold, but not you. Tell me why you hate me, because I’ve done nothing to you.”

He clenched his jaw. “Your existence is troubling.”

I pushed out my chest. “Tell me why my existence bothers you so much.”

His brothers shifted awkwardly in their seats. Marcello turned his head to look out the window. Bastian leaned forward on the couch and stared at his shoes. Damian glanced at Luca like a little boy waiting for his dad to tell him the secrets of the universe.

He idolized Luca.

They all did.

Luca was their god.

Their bully king.

“Your grandfather needs to be there when I do it.” Luca couldn’t meet my gaze. “You need to hear it from him.”

My lips parted in shock. “Why?”

“Because I promised to wait until he was there to tell you. As much as I hate Carl, I respect him. I owe him that much.”

“You hate me because of my grandfather?”

He shook his head. “Just drop it, Drea. I’ll schedule a meeting with Carl and my father. You need to hear it from them.”

“Are you going to make more of an effort?” I looked up at my handsome prince. His jaw ticked as he thought over my question. “I need you to be better, Luca.” I slid my hand up his arm and squeezed his bicep. “Even Damian has been trying.”

He snorted. “Damian choked you and almost killed you.”

“Damian apologized.”
