“You’re going to choose him over me. I know it.”

I was so angry with his intrusion of my sleep that I wanted to hit him where it would hurt most. “Are you afraid no one will ever be dumb enough to love you?”

His laughter shook through me. “You think I want your love?” Luca shook his head. “Nah, baby girl. I want to hear you scream, feel your body tremble beneath mine.”

“There’s something wrong with you. You have no heart, no soul. You’re empty. That’s exactly why I will choose Marcello over you.”

He glared at me, his mouth inches from mine. “After everything I have done for you… might as well spit in my fucking face.”

I closed my eyes and breathed through my nose. “I didn’t ask for this.”

“You never had a choice.” His lips hovered above mine, his breath heating my skin. “You will be my queen. Stop fighting this.”

I squirmed beneath him. His cock was hard and rubbed against me through his pants. Why did I like the feel of his body on top of me?

“Then tell me something real, Luca. I feel like I know nothing about you. I can’t marry someone who doesn’t care about me, who hasn’t taken the time to get to know me. You only want to fuck me.”

“That’s a lie, and you know it. If I only wanted to fuck you, I would have taken you over that sink in the bathroom years ago.” He rolled his thumb over my lip. “You’re a part of me, my Queen D.”

“You need me,” I bit out. “More than I will ever need you.”

He clutched my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes. “We need each other.”

I hated he was right.

Luca brought down my walls, one at a time, until I bared myself to him. He peppered my jaw with aggressive kisses, his fingers sliding down my throat. I widened my legs for him, tilting my head back against the pillow so he could suck and bite my neck. Heat rushed between my thighs, and I arched my hips to create some friction.

“I need to know one thing.”

He caged me against the mattress and covered my mouth with his. “Anything.”

“Why do you call me Drea? Not Alexandrea or Alex. Not even a nickname like your brothers.”

I’d never asked him that.

He stiffened on top of me. “Why? You don’t like that name?”

“It’s not that. I always wondered if you called me Drea to disrespect me.”

His hard body crushed mine as he shifted his weight. “I wanted you to have a name no one else would use. Not my brothers, your family. No one.”

“Why?”

“Because I knew you were mine the second I laid eyes on you. Even though I hated you, I knew.” He brushed my cheek with his thumb. “Mine. The first time I saw you, I said your name, and it didn’t sound right. Alexandrea is a beautiful name. But you look like a Drea to me.”

“We still haven’t talked about the past. It’s what shaped our future. I think we should at least…”

He pressed his fingers over my mouth. “No, baby. We don’t need to talk about it. It took me a long time to realize you’re not your mother. That you had nothing to do with my mother’s death.”

“And how long did it take you to see that? Because until recently, I felt your hatred every time you walked into a room.”

“The truth?”

I nodded.

“When your grandfather told you.”

I frowned at his response. “Luca, I’m nothing like her.”
