I stopped mid-stride and held my breath. Someone was in the room, but I couldn’t see shit. As I turned to walk away, strong arms wrapped around me from behind. And before I could scream, someone put their hand over my mouth and dragged me into the darkness.

Alex tried to scream, but no one could hear her over the loud music. With my arm wrapped around her middle, I dragged her to the couch at the center of the room. She wiggled around in my arms, attempting to break free.

Good luck with that, baby girl.

Alex attempted to kick and slap me, though it was no use. I lowered her onto the couch, pinning her to the cushion. The music cranked through the speakers, the beat drowning out her cries.

I used this room for parties. It was ten times the size of a normal living room and had enough furniture to accommodate everyone in Devil’s Creek. “Venom” by Eminem blared through the speakers in the corners of the room. Alex whimpered, and I laughed at her attempts to fight me.

Something fucking snapped inside me after Marcello’s shooting. Like I hit the reset button. I didn’t hate her like it did before, but I was so fucking angry over her love for my brother. She didn’t have to say the words aloud. We all knew she was in love with Marcello.

Barefoot and dressed in skimpy pajamas, Alex squirmed beneath me as I caged her against the cushion, my hand still over her mouth. I was over a foot taller than her and had at least sixty more pounds of muscle. She could fight me all she wanted. In fact, I was hoping she would, because it turned me on. My cock was like a steel rod from all of her whimpering.

“If I release my hand, are you going to scream?”

Alex shook her head, her tears wetting my skin. I dropped my hand, and she released a sob.

“What is wrong with you, Luca?” Alex’s chest rose and fell against mine. “Turn on the lights.”

“No.”

She let out a whine, her fear of the dark taking over.

“I got you, baby.” I swiped my finger beneath her eyes, capturing her tears. “Don’t cry.”

“How could you do that to me?”

I slid off her, resting my arm on the back of the couch. “Quiet, woman. We have to conquer your fears together.”

Alex sat up and felt around in the dark, too scared to make a run for it. Her fingers brushed my thigh, then moved to the couch. “I came downstairs to get a drink. Why were none of the guards on my floor?”

“None of them?”

“No,” she whispered. “Not a single guard all the way down here.”

I removed my cell phone from my pocket and opened the security app.

“Is something wrong?”

“No,” I lied.

Of course, there was something fucking wrong. We had two men posted at each end of her hallway at all times. None of them were at their posts. I flipped to the camera in Marcello’s temporary bedroom across the hall. Benji sat on the edge of the bed and talked to my brother while he cleaned his gun.

I wanted to wring both of their fucking necks for their carelessness. It would only take one wrong move, and we would lose Alex for good. How could they be so stupid?

“What’s going on, Luca?” Alex clutched my wrist. “I don’t need to see your face to know you’re angry.”

To put her at ease, I stroked her bare arm with my fingers. “Nothing you need to be concerned about, Drea.”

She climbed onto my lap and kissed my neck. The heat from her breath warmed my skin, sending a wave of electricity throughout my body. With Alex, there was always a palpable energy. It gave me a high unlike any other.

Until Alex, I’d never felt a connection with a woman and had never even kissed one. Same for Damian. Neither of us liked intimacy. It made my skin crawl, my stomach turn. Alex was the exception to every rule.

She stuck out her tongue and licked my lip. “I’m sorry for ignoring you for the past few weeks. I shouldn’t have shut you out, Luca. Marcello is your brother. I should have been comforting you, not the other way around.”

She deserved a good spanking. A little punishment for being a brat.

“You ignored all of us,” I reminded her. “Not just me. Bash and Damian miss you, too, baby.”
