Even though taking a train to the nearest station and then a carriage to the house would've been faster, Nora had said hell no to that; going outside was still too new. So they'd spent the last six hours inside a carriage, driving toward Leo's country home.

River had tried to stay awake, but the motion of the carriage—combined without the need to focus like he did with driving a car or motorcycle—had given his still recovering body a chance to rest. Especially since he'd used so much magic the day before.

Although as the sleep fog lifted from his brain, he studied Nora, looking for any signs of stress or panic. "Sorry, I was supposed to stay awake and keep you company. You doing okay?"

She smiled at him from across the way, on the opposite seat. "Yes." She bit her lip, and then blurted, "You talk in your sleep, River."

Rubbing his face again—sometimes he didn't wake up the fastest, unless it was for a medical emergency, and wasn't as if he could grab a coffee from a drive-through—and asked, "What did I say, exactly?"

"Most of it was nonsense. Although at one point, you asked someone to do their worst and that you wouldn't change your mind." She tilted her head. "Was that dream nonsense or something more?"

The perceptive vampire probably knew it wasn't nonsense. No doubt some of his locked-away torture had leaked out. "It was probably a memory. But I rarely remember anything that happens in my dreams."

Although it couldn't have been too bad since he wasn't sweaty, let alone hadn't scared the shit out of Nora by screaming.

She smoothed the material of her dark skirt. "You sounded in pain, River. And I didn't like it."

At the concern in her gaze, his heart warmed a fraction. Apart from his sisters and mentor, no one else had fucking cared about him so much since his mother's death. "I'm sure it'll all come out one day, that time from my captivity, and I'll be a mess. But I've heard of cases where fae witches bottle up unpleasant memories without thinking, sort of like a defense mechanism." He shrugged. "Even in my time, we don't know every little bit of how magic works. I think there's some parts we'll never fully understand."

She tapped a hand against her leg. "It's strange to think magic can still have so many secrets for fae witches. The only thing vampires don't fully understand is why we freeze at a certain age, or how we have a fated one to make our heart beat again."

He sat up a little more in his seat, now that he was more awake. "Well, there are tales of the vampires pissing off the strongest fae witch to ever live, one that had at least a dozen different magical skills, and that fae witch supposedly cursed the vampires for eternity with frozen states and fated ones."

She smiled. "Perhaps. Although that is more a children's story than anything else. I've never heard of a fae witch having more than maybe two or three powers, at most."

"Same." He noticed a large rectangular building with two stories coming into view. There were seven rows of windows in perfect alignment on the front of it, except for the door replacing one of them on the bottom floor. The light brown stone and pitched slate roofs definitely screamed British to River. "Is that Leo's country house? It's like a mini-fucking-mansion."

Nora glanced out the window. "Yes, that's Swiftmoon Court. It's large, but not overly so with eight bedrooms. Whilst the house is lovely, my favorite part is the land. Leo owns thousands of acres surrounding it, which is peaceful and private."

As he watched Nora stare lovingly at the passing scenery, he bet she had better memories here than of London.

However, he didn't want to start up a serious conversation right before they disembarked. So he tried to lighten the mood. "I guess I'm going to have to try and learn how to ride a fucking horse here, huh?"

She beamed at him. "Yes, that's going to be fun." She lowered her voice dramatically, even though it was only the two of them. He fucking loved how she became more playful by the day. "I might even try riding astride."

"Oh no, you're such a bad, bad girl." He winked. "Your secret will be safe with me."

Nora laughed and he couldn't resist reaching for her hand and kissing the back of it. Her laughter died and a flicker of heat filled her gaze. He whispered loudly, "I suppose that means I'll finally get to see your ass in pants when you do that. I can't wait."

She blushed, and his dick twitched.Woah, calm down, fucker. There would be no quick carriage fucking today.

Although his mind easily filled with Nora riding his cock, the scent of sex filling the small space, as she finally came and milked every single drop of his cum.

Oh, hell yes, he would most assuredly do that one day.

Nora cleared her throat and tugged her hand. He released it as she replied, "Does that mean you're going to wear a skirt and ride sidesaddle?"

He grimaced. "No fucking way. From what I know, I'll fall and break my neck trying to contort my body like that."

She laughed. "Maybe once you're more skilled you can try it. Because I'll admit, that would be amusing and something I'd never forget."

"You little vixen." He tugged her over and she fell onto his lap. The instant her arms went around his neck and she relaxed against him, he kissed her.

He'd barely slipped his tongue between her sweet lips when the carriage stopped moving. Nora broke the kiss and he groaned. "Can't we just stay inside a little longer? Your kisses are the best thing to wake me up and I need some more, a lot more, before facing the day."

She rolled her eyes. "No. I've been awake the whole time. And since I can't read in carriages without getting ill, I'm desperate to stretch my legs and do something."

He sighed. "Okay, now I feel like an asshole."
