I cry out when another orgasm rolls over me, sweeping me away. I fall apart, but Brett is right there to hold me together. He explodes inside of me a moment later, and we’re riding out the pleasure together, clinging onto each other.

When it’s all over, we stay like that for a long time. Our bodies are melded together, our skin slick with sweat, breathing hard. Brett’s heart hammers against my chest, and it echoes my own.

Finally, I roll off him and we lie side by side. He holds my hand so we’re still touching—always connected in one way or another.

“Are you coming to the game tomorrow?” he asks.

I smile. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

He plants a kiss on my lips. “Good, I’d love to know you’re in the crowd, rooting for me.”

I smile at him, but my smile fades.

“I don’t know what to do about Stacey. She and Mark aren’t talking right now, she wants nothing to do with me…I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s already back home.”

Brett thinks about it for a moment. “Marc is still here—he has to be for the game. I want to talk to him. We’ll figure this out.”

“Will we?” I ask. “I don’t know if it will be that easy.”

“We got back together, against all odds.”

I nod. That’s true. But I’m not sure what happened between Stacey and Marc can be fixed. It’s a lot bigger than any of us can figure out.”

Brett kisses me. “Trust me. If you and I could get together again after how we started out, anything is possible.”

I smile at that. He’s right—we are the most unlikely people to ever end up together. And we worked it out. I just hope we can help Marc and Stacey fix things between them, too. To lose a love like they have is a sin.

And I want my best friend to be as happy as she was before. To be as happy as I am.
