Chapter 4

Jenna

I don’t know Kelsey and Nina very well—they’re girls from Stacey’s work. But she chose them as her bridesmaids so we’re going to make it work. Until this wedding is over, we’re all going to be best friends.

When the girls arrive at the hotel, the paparazzi make a fuss outside. I hear the commotion.

"They're going to drive me crazy," Stacey mutters.

After pushing through the throngs, Nina and Kelsey tumble into the hotel.

"Jesus, is it always like this?" Nina asks with a scowl on her face.

"You just have to show them your good side," Kelsey says, tilting her head a little to demonstrate.

"This is my good side," Nina says, gesturing to her entire face.

Kelsey giggles. "Right now, that's your bitch side."

Nina rolls her eyes but she smiles, and Stacey runs to them, enveloping them into a group hug.

Nina and Kelsey seem…young. Especially Kelsey.

"I can't believe we're all here!" Stacey exclaims when they break up the hug and bellhops start carting their luggage away.

They're opposites in every way. Kelsey has dark hair, she's always been Miss Popular, and her figure, her clothes, her reputation is everything. Nina has short auburn hair, a sweet face she barely puts any makeup on, and a no-nonsense attitude.

When I meet them, I already like Nina. She looks like she doesn't entertain a lot of drama and I can work with that.

We head up to the penthouse suite where Stacey and Marc are staying together for now. It's even more luxurious and extravagant than our suites.?

"You're not going to see each other the night before the wedding, are you?" Kelsey asks. "Because that's bad luck."

"He's moving into the other suite two days before," I confirm, and Stacey nods.

“How are things with Laura?” Nina asks me when Kelsey and Stacey inspect the bridesmaids’ dresses. They’re in deep conversation about the color and the length, both of which can’t be changed at this point.

“They’re not bad,” I say. “With the three of us all trying to manage the wedding together, it’s a bit of a tug-of-war. But I’ve got it under control. I think Stacey expected it to be far worse.”

“You’re so good with people,” Nina says. "Stacey's been telling me how you handle it all. Laura can be a total pain in the ass.

I blink at her. The compliment is unexpected and her summary of Laura is spot on.

“I’m just glad that we’ve come this far,” I finally say. “Stacey deserves to be happy.”

Nina nods and we both look at Stacey as she talks excitedly, explaining in great detail how the seamstress nearly screwed up the dresses and they had to bring someone in last-minute.

"I didn't want someone to have to take care of it over here," she says. "I wouldn't have been able to deal with that. There's already so much going on."

I try to see her through the eyes of someone who doesn’t know her as well as I do. She comes across a little harsh. She has black hair and icy blue eyes and a resting bitch face that scares most people off. But when you get to know her, she's warm, caring, and willing to go to the ends of the Earth for a cause she believes in.

Since she grew up in a family with money, she’s not starstruck by Marc and his riches and fame. I think that’s a good thing—she’s going to know how to handle herself. She's comfortable with paparazzi, where I freeze up in front of the cameras. That's something I'm going to have to work on while we're all in the limelight over here.

“Okay, ladies, let’s go out,” Stacey says, clapping her hands together as if she’s our matron. "I can do with a couple of drinks to take the edge off. And we're in Hawaii!"

Kelsey cheers. I exchange amused glances with Nina.

"Let's get our drink on," she says, and I'm on board with that idea.
