“You were serious when you said that to her?” Noah asks. “What happened to bros before hoes?”

Jenna pales at his last word. Great, it’s making me look like a son of a bitch more and more.

“Fuck!” I cry out. “It’s not such a big fucking deal! It’s been ten years, damn it!”

“If it’s not such a big deal,” Jenna says tightly, “why did you have to lie to everyone about it?”

She turns around and storms off before I can say that the only person I lied to was Noah. I didn’t lie to her about how I felt. I just…fuck.

“She’s got a point,” Noah says. “And you’re a dick; you know that?”

“What the fuck, man? Are you telling me you’re seriously going to have a fit about this? You didn’t care enough to stick around when she wanted you to stay in LA. You came to Miami with me. You told me it’s fine. Don’t tell me now that me being with her is wrong because you’re so fucking invested.”

Noah shakes his head. “Fuck you. This is about lying to your best friend, not about anything else. Damn it, you son of a bitch.”

He tries to swing for me, but his balance is off and I’m in better physical condition than he is—hell, it’s my career to avoid being trampled and beaten for the sake of the score.

When Noah stumbles, I catch him, but he shoves me away and storms out of the room.

A few people are still watching us, and I notice a camera taking photos.

Fuck. This is just great, isn’t it? Not only is Noah pissed off at me, Jenna is probably complaining to her friends, and the wedding just had its first fiasco—it’s going to be in the news. I can already imagine the headlines: Fight at the Atkins-Jackson wedding between Football Star Brett Evans and football agent Noah Spencer can’t wait until the afterparty. Or something ridiculous like that.

This is more than just relationships and the past. This is my reputation, Noah’s reputation, the two families’ reputation, and everything that follows.

Fuck, sometimes I hate being famous.
