“So, now that you’re not a football player anymore, what will you do?” she asks.

“Open a restaurant,” I say.

“What?” she blinks at me.

“It’s always been a dream of mine. I think it could work.”

“You have a name you can ride on. That’s a start,” she says.

I grimace. “I’m not just coasting on my fame.”

“No, you worked hard to get where you are,” she says. “I can’t see why you shouldn’t use it. I don’t mean to sound weird, but I believe at some point, everything you put out into the universe comes back to you. And you deserve that if you’ve put in the work.”

It’s the opposite of what my father always tells me. Natalie seems to get it.

She glances up at me when I stare at her and blushes. Her complete oblivion to her own beauty makes her fucking adorable.

“What?” she asks again.

I shake my head. “Nothing. Have you had a look at the menu?”

She shakes her head.

“I’m a foodie,” I admit. “Can I make a suggestion?”

“Sure,” she says with a smile.

Chapter 10

Natalie

I look at him while he’s talking about his future plans, nodding and smiling. But my mind spins. How did this happen? What are the odds that Michelle’s Mason ismyMason.

I scold myself immediately for thinking about him like that. This isn’t going anywhere—I told myself as much before I walked through the doors before I knew it was him. And now I have all the more reason to stand by my resolution.

Mason won’t be the guy for me. I need someone reliable, someone who won’t just up and disappear when the sun rises. He won’t stick around, and that’s the last thing I’m prepared to deal with.

This is just one date, one dinner. I allowed him that much, and that’s where it will stay.

Even when he lights up when he talks about his restaurant and his passion makes him even dreamier than he already is. He’s the epitome of tall, dark and handsome and when he gets excited about the restaurant and his food, I want to kiss him.

A lot.

I want to make out with him and dry hump him. When I think that, I stifle a giggle.

Mason pauses while he talks, his eyes glittering with excitement.

“If you like, I could show you sometime.”

“It sounds like a wonderful place,” I say, keeping it non-committal.

Mason picks up on the distance between us. I know I’m keeping him at arm’s length.

“I’m not the hit-and-run type of guy, Natalie,” he says.

“The what?”

He laughs. “I mean, the type that has a one-night stand and doesn’t call back.” He looks sheepish.
