“So, good for your image,” Samantha adds, thinking that that’s where I’m headed with that statement.

But it’s not. I’m referring to the fact that it’s public because in public, Blake Ford won’t be able to come onto me. I won’t have a reason why I need to fight the urge to let him have his way with me. He’s not going to be able to just fuck me on a restaurant table in front of other patrons.

It’s safer than going to his place. It will allow me to talk business without getting flustered because we’re alone, together.

“Right,” I say, nodding at Samantha.

“Where does he want to take you?”

“Lavande,” I said.

Sam freezes and blinks at me. “Are you shitting me?”

“What?” I ask, giggling.

“That’s only the most expensive and most popular place in town. Alex hasn’t even managed to get in there, despite all the connections he has. He’sdyingto go. And you just get invited like that.” She snaps her fingers to emphasize her point.

I smile and shake my head. “It’s not a big deal. He’s not the type to flaunt his money; I don’t think he’s going there for that.”

Sam narrows her eyes at me. “Then he really likes you.”

“What?” I asked, surprised.

“If he didn’t choose Lavande to flaunt his money, he chose it to impress you.”

I swallow hard, a shiver running down my spine.

“Maybe it’s just about flaunting his wealth, then,” I offer.

Because as much as I want this to be about the latter—that Blake Ford might actually like me and want to treat me because of it—I can’t buy into that fantasy. Especially not after what happened in his apartment. He’s still a client. And I’m still associated with Ruby Blue.

When my phone rings again, it’s Raven.

“How are things?” she asks after we exchange pleasantries. “I hear you’re working well with the new client.”

“Very well,” I say. “He’s asked for a whole new wardrobe, so it’s bigger than the initial party assignment.”

“That’s great! When are you seeing him for another consultation?”

“He wants to have dinner tonight to discuss—”

“Do it,” Raven says.

“What?”

“We always do what our customers want to keep them happy. Wine and dine the man, Rachel!” She giggles. She has no idea how much I want towine and dinehim. And then maybe six-nine him. My cheeks burn when I think of my dirty joke. Thankfully, Raven can’t see me but Sam’s watching me, and that only makes me blush harder.

Raven rambles on about how well things are going overall before she ends the call.

When she’s done talking, Sam has a twinkle in her eye.

“You’re seeing Blake Ford tonight, huh?”

“You heard that?” I ask, dropping my phone back into my handbag.

“You bet. Raven’s squeal could be heard throughout the shop.” Sam giggles. “Looks like someone has a hot date tonight.”

I shake my head, but I’m smiling.
