“Lulu changes her mind daily, too. Don’t worry about it,” Roni said, already guessing Hope’s concern that, once again, Hannah would find herself as a social outcast.

“It’s one of the year’s highlights for them. I want her to enjoy it. Last year, she got tired from carrying her ice cream stand costume and trying to keep up with everyone,” Hope said, watching her girls filtering wet sand from their fists, creating shapes on top of their sandcastle.

“Let her choose, even if she makes a mistake,” Libby said.

“Yeah, that’s what I’m doing, at least with the little mistakes. I wish someone had warned me from some of the big ones I made. But you live and learn.”

“Or not,” Roni said with a wink.

If only she could tell her friends …

“Hannah,” Hope called. “Next week at the fair, they’ll be selling Halloween accessories. Let’s see what they have there. Knowing you, you’ll find many things you’ll love.”

“Deal,” Hannah said then returned to her sandcastle.

“Luke and I won’t be here for the fair. We’re going to New York,” Libby said.

“Will you two finally join the Mile High club?” Roni grinned.

“Once an air marshal, always an air marshal,” both Libby and Hope quoted, laughing.
