“And you whistled,” she replied, her green eyes shining brightly.
“And I whistled.” He laughed and ruffled her curls.
He gave her team a standing ovation, which made others stand, too, when they were announced as the second-place winners.
“They’re the youngest here, and that says something,” the moderator indicated.
“When you reach their age, you’ll easily win the gold.” Jordan put his hand on Hannah’s shoulder and smiled. “You, too.” He turned to the boy.
“Maybe you’ll coach us,” Hannah said, looking like the dictionary definition of happiness.
“Maybe.”
He then moved aside and let Hope take pictures with her daughter, and Chris, and other contestants.
He didn’t even reach the seats when Hope touched his shoulder. “Jordan.”
He turned, and the room evaporated.
“Thank you. I know I’ve said it, but really, it means so much to her, to me. It’s … Her dad didn’t even come.”
“I’m sorry. It’s his loss.”
“We’re going for dinner. Will you come? I forgot to even ask … I was so surprised and so … Have you booked a hotel—”
“I have a flight back in two hours. I need to get to the airport.”

“Good.” She expelled a breath, and her gaze escaped to the side.
It was torture. He was glad he had booked that flight out.
“You bought a house,” she suddenly said, turning her eyes back to him.
“Yes.”
“I passed by it on my way to … It’s a nice street.” Her cheeks flushed the way they had when she had told him that she had been following Rush’s career because of him. She cleared her throat.
“Yeah. I need to see it for myself. I only saw it in Ava’s pictures and Google Earth.”
