It wasn’t the door that they ended up using. It was her shower wall. After making use of the bed again the night before, they had fallen asleep. When Jordan used her shower in the morning, she went in there to put out a clean towel for him. Instead, she found herself up against the wall, clothes and all, so fast that she became almost dizzy. She did become dizzy with excess of oxygen when he made her hold on to him for dear life, gasping his name against his wet skin as he thrust hard into her against the wall.

Later, with a towel around his waist, Jordan picked up the wet clothes that he had taken off her in the shower. She wanted to clap—Eric wouldn’t ever dream of picking anything up—wondering inside when she would stop comparing.

“Where’s your luggage?” she asked when they went back to the bedroom and he put on the clothes that he’d had on the night before. “I didn’t even ask where you’re staying. When did you arrive?”

“I kept your mouth busy.” He smirked at her, and she felt ridiculous to blush, yet she did. “I arrived yesterday, left my stuff at my parents’, then drove here. I was supposed to go see the house, too. Thought about leaving my stuff there, but …”

“You came to see the house?”

“You’re the only reason I board planes these days, Hope. Do you want to come with me to see it, or did you have enough eyeful when you passed by?” That smirk again … and those dimples. She could never get enough.

“I’ll go with you.”

“We can drive my new car.” He pointed out the window, at a black Volvo SUV that was parked on the other side of the street.

“You bought a car?”

“I’m not here on vacation, so I need one.” His smile was lopsided.

She realized what he was doing.

She rose to her toes and kissed him. “It’s a ten-minute walk. Speaking of, I never got to thank you for fixing the garage door.”

“I think you pretty much did.” He ran a finger over her jawline then planted a kiss on her lips.

They walked there. The place was more a construction site than when she had seen it before. Roni and her crew had begun working on it, though Roni wasn’t there the day after Halloween.

“Will you move here? To suburbia?” she asked, still incredulous. They were standing on the lawn that needed some TLC and gazing at the house from the outside.

“I’ll move to fucking Siberia, if you’re there.” He held her hand and pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her waist, and her hands landed on his shoulders. “We have work to do if you’re still wondering about my wanting to be here and nowhere else.”

“Just a little work.” She blushed. Yes, she still had work to do with herself, but they were both worth it.

He tightened his hold on her waist. “You know, there’s a saying—never let a good crisis go to waste. When that thing with Rush happened, it forced me to face things, to make a change. That was the good outcome of that crisis. Because I got to know you, and you changed my perspective on possibilities, on what I wanted to be, to do, to have, even on who I am.”

“How did I do that?”

“Just by being you.”

She stared at him, her mind indexing, her heart registering, flailing.

She reached up to his nape and brought his lips down to hers. Kissing him was her way of telling him, until she could find words, that he had done the same for her.
