They both rushed through the condo until they came to the master bedroom.

Her hands went to her mouth when she saw him asleep and with another bottle in his hand. Fortunately, very little of it was missing.

Travis took the bottle from him and poured it down the drain. “I’ll get the rest of the booze out of here.”

“Okay.”

“Do you want me to try to help you wake him up?”

She shook her head. “No. I’ll call if I need you. Thank you.”

“Thank you for coming. He’s one of my closest friends, and I hate seeing him kill himself. You’re the only one who can stop it. No pressure, though.” Travis laughed.

She chuckled. “We’ll talk soon.” It felt good to laugh.

Anna waited until she heard the elevator door close and started to go down before lying down beside Zachary and running her fingers through his hair.

“Zachary, wake up.”

She shook him when he didn’t move. “Zachary, it’s Anna. I need you to wake up.”

“Anna?” he murmured.

“Yes, can you try to wake up? We’ll get you into the shower to help you sober up. While you’re doing that, I’ll make coffee.”

He blinked at her a few times like he couldn’t believe she was really there. “Anna?’

She stroked his cheek. “Yes. I’m here.”

He pulled her against his body and held her for a long time. “This isn’t a dream?”

“No. I’m here.”

“Please don’t tell me you came to say goodbye again. I couldn’t take it.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’m here because I missed you.”

He pressed his face into her neck. “You have no idea how much I miss you.”

“How about a shower?”

He moved sluggishly. “I’ll try.”

“Do you need help?”

“I don’t think so.”

“I’ll get some coffee for you.”

“Okay.”

She watched him walk into the bathroom before she went into the kitchen. Then she quickly got a cup of coffee using a Keurig and took it into the bathroom. “How are you doing?” she asked.

“Good.”

“I’ve got your coffee.”

He opened the shower door and took the cup. He drank down half of it before he handed it back.
