“Room service.”
“I’m so close.” He gritted his teeth. “One second!” he called out.

“I’m going to be a zombie tomorrow.” I turned and glanced at the clock next to the bed. “Or rather today.” It was almost four a.m. We had to meet everyone for brunch at ten. Then Chip would be heading back to Wisconsin.

I wanted to argue, but I was exhausted. “You have your alarm on your phone set, right?” I yawned, fighting sleep. Thank God, I took Monday off of work; I planned to sleep all day.
“Yes, for nine. That’s enough time, right?”
I nodded, half asleep already. The wedding and Chip had worn me out.

Chip went to his room to shower, get dressed, and pack. I kissed him reluctantly and agreed to meet him downstairs in about thirty minutes.

As I headed downstairs, I ran into Dani and Parker. He had his arm around her and was holding her tight. The two of them had smiles plastered on their faces.
“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt.” I beamed at them as they approached the elevator. “Did you have a good night?”
Dani grinned at me. “Yes, did you?” She raised an eyebrow and I felt my face get hot.
“I did.” I couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across my face.
She clasped her hands together. “Good! So now what?”
I shrugged. “Now Chip goes home to Wisconsin and I go back to work this week. We chalk this up as a good time and something we can look back fondly on. I told you a relationship wouldn’t work.”
“Mmhmm.” She nodded and I shook my head.
“You know she won’t give up on you two,” Parker warned me as the elevator doors opened.
I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned on the inside of the elevator. “Well, too bad. I don’t do long distance and other than you two, we have nothing in common. So stop it.”
She didn’t say another word but I knew my best friend. The wheels in her head were spinning and she was plotting. My mind was made up though.
So why did it bother me so much that in a few short hours, I had to say goodbye to Chip?
