REBECCA

“I’m tired of getting zero respect at work.” I lean my head back on the seat of our Uber and close my eyes.

“Are you really surprised, Rebecca? You work with all men.” My best friend Allison applies her lip gloss in her compact mirror and smacks her lips. “I mean really.”

Victoria rolls her eyes and shakes her head. “This isn’t the 1800’s. Rebecca should be able to work with men and not get hit on every five minutes.” She gives me a look and I give her a small smile, thankful for her taking my side.

“I don’t know, I guess I expected more but I should have known better. And I should have known better than to date anyone at work.” I had gone on a few dates with another member of the staff and even slept with him. He had a big mouth and now some of the NBA players I worked with had been giving me a hard time.

“You should report them,” Victoria crossed her arms over her ample chest and smirked. “I would think they could get into trouble for harassment.”

“That’s a great way to win them over - not. I don’t really want to do that unless it gets out of hand. I’m hoping if I ignore it, eventually it will blow over.”

The Uber pulled up to a new bar we were trying tonight called Murphy’s. “Tonight, we are far away from where anyone from work would be out and I plan to get drunk and dance my heart out.”

We got out of the car and headed inside of the bar. I immediately liked the atmosphere. Music was playing but not so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk. The decor was simple and classic with lots of dark wood. There were tables with tall chairs and a few booths. To the right was a long bar and it looked like there was even a small dance floor towards the back.

For a Friday night, there were plenty of people there but we were able to grab a table near the bar.

“I’ve got the first round!” Victoria cried out and headed to the bar after getting our drink orders.

Victoria and Allison were my best friends and had been since we got put in a group together in biology class our freshman year of college. We’d been inseparable ever since.

She came back with our drinks with a smile on her face. “The bartender is super hot.” Allison and I turned around to check him out.

She wasn’t wrong.

I didn’t usually go for redheads but his was almost a reddish brown color. It was longer on the top with the sides cut short. He wore a flannel shirt and had the sleeves rolled up to the elbows revealing an Apple watch. He leaned against the bar as he talked to someone, the corner of his mouth turned up in a smile. He glanced up and caught us looking at him. We made eye contact and he winked and smiled at me.

“Ooooo, did you see that?” Allison smiled and nudged me with her elbow. “He winked at you.”

I laughed and waved her off. “He’s the bartender. He wants us to buy more drinks. He probably winks at a lot of different girls.”

Allison shrugged her shoulders and brushed her blond hair back from her eyes. “Whatever. I think he likes you.”

This was one of the many reasons why I loved Allison - she was always so positive.

“It doesn’t matter one way or the other. I’m done with men indefinitely. I’m going to focus on work and hanging out with you guys.”

“Thanks to that vibrator you bought last week, you don’t need a man for a long time.” Victoria smirked and I felt my face get red.

“Oh my god, Victoria! Say that a little louder, why don’t you?” She laughed and Allison gave her a disapproving look. She was the prude of the group. Or at least that’s what she liked us to believe. She was maybe the freakiest out of the three of us.

We stopped talking about the bartender and discussed the other things going on in our lives, such as Allison’s new boyfriend who also happened to be her boss and what Victoria should wear to her parent’s fundraiser next month.

“I need another drink.” I put my empty glass down on the table. “My turn to buy.” I hopped off of my chair and started towards the bar.

“You should get his number!” Allison called out to me and I ignored her, mortified as I walked towards the hot bartender who was now grinning at me.

I needed new best friends.

CONAN

Ismiled at the pretty girl coming my way. Yes, I heard her best friend tell her to get my number. Yes, I saw the mortified look on her face when she heard her.
