Page 8 of Burning It Down

She pulled away from me and crossed her arms over her chest. It cracked me up the way she talked to him sometimes. He was so intimidating, but she didn't give a shit. She would say whatever was on her mind when it came to Billy. “I think I did a pretty good job the last couple of days. Don't you?

He raised his eyebrows and nodded. "Fair enough. You did a great job, Princess."

She smiled and grabbed her coffee cup, heading over to the couch. "So what are we going to do today, boys? When are we headed back to the bedroom?" She wiggled her eyebrows, and I chuckled.

"It's tempting, but we have some phone calls to make, and then maybe we can go back to bed."

She pouted for a second and then laughed. If anyone could understand the world we lived in, it was her.

We made a little bit more small talk when Billy's phone rang. He answered it and walked out of the room, so I assumed it was business.

Isabella knew what we did, but we didn't need to talk about it in front of her. The less she knew, the better.

Billy walked back into the kitchen quickly. “You guys will never believe this.”

“What?”

“Our latest shipment? That big one that we were working on?”

“Yeah?” The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. This couldn’t be good.

"Apparently, somebody intercepted it, and it never made it to its destination."

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

“I bet it was Bruce.” Isabella chimed in.

“Do you think so?” I asked.

“I would bet,” Billy replied.

"Honestly, you guys, I can't believe that he has left me alone for this long. He had to be planning something, and that's probably what it was." Her eyes filled with tears. "I'm really sorry I caused such a mess."

I went to her immediately and put my arm around her, drawing her against me. "You don't know that it was Bruce. And even if it is, I don't care. It doesn't matter. We'll get it back, and we'll get a rebound. Nobody takes from us."

“I know. But if I wasn't here, if you guys hadn't rescued me that night, you probably wouldn't have done it.”

Billy came over and sat on the other side of her. “Charles is right. We don't care. If he thinks he can fuck with our business. He's got another thing coming. We aren't going to give you back to him.”

I sat and comforted her, and Billy looked at me. We had no regrets about helping Isabella that night, but we had to figure out what we would do. If we didn't get that shit back, we would owe a lot of money.

But nobody fucked with our shit or our woman. If this was Bruce's doing, he would definitely pay for it.

"I'm going to make some phone calls," Billy said and stood up. "We should be able to find out if this was really Bruce or not. But, Charles, why don't you stay with Isabella?"

I hugged her. "Gladly." I kissed her temple, and she smiled at me.

Isabella looked up at Billy. “Be careful if you go anywhere. Please, please.” She grabbed his hand and tugged on it. “Please promise me you'll be careful.”

He bent down and gave her a long kiss. “Don't worry. I'll be careful. We just found you. I'm not gonna let anybody ruin it.”

That made her smile so big, and she looked more beautiful than ever. Her hair was messed up and her makeup gone, but she was thoroughly fucked and well satisfied.

I kept her distracted with some mindless TV while Billy made some phone calls in the other room. He was gone for about an hour before he walked back into the living room. He shoved his phone into his pocket and shook his head.

"It seems as though our suspicions are correct. It sounds like this was Bruce and his guys. They weren't shy about the camera, and it was all caught on film. We're gonna have to be extra careful. Isabella, I don't want you going anywhere without Charles or me. Not even just a bodyguard. You stay here. I mean it. He is out to get us and to get you. You are precious to us, and we don't want anything to happen to you."
