Page 12 of Hell's Reaper

My father, the devil, lays a sweet kiss on my cheek just as we pull up to the academy after a short teleporting drive that Monday morning. “I’m gonna miss you, diablo,” my father says. He did the exact same thing and said the exact same thing to Fen. I think he might not have favorites anymore. “Oh! Killian, do you want kisses?” My father swoons. It is always so weird to have the devil as a father, and although he can be scary, he is a sucker for his kids.

“I’d rather die,” Killian deadpans.

While my father is distracted getting his heart broken, I slip from the car. My eyes wander to the academy in front of me.

Soul Reaper Academy. Large black metal fences surround the whole campus, stretching as far as I can see. The main building sits smack dab in the middle of the campus, towering over everything else. The beige building has pillars that climb up into a pointed peak, with windows covering each floor. Right in front is a large beige fountain with a statue of the Grim Reaper. He’s full of himself sometimes.

My eyes move to the building beside it, showing off a scythe symbol in the front. Soul Reaper’s dorms. The building looks the same, but less… pointy. The drab color follows the colors of the gothic academy. Beside the dorms is a huge training field that is already filled with multiple groups.

My eyes land on a guy shifting into a hellhound. He shifts the same way Ledger did; his limbs extend until he’s bent over on all fours. He shakes out the long coat of fur, eyes looking for his reaper.

I’ve dreamt of going to this place ever since I was a kid. Khazon, the son of Death, and Ozias, the son of Hades, would both sit with me, talking about what powers our hellhounds would have. I never cared. I just wanted them. I wanted to be one of the best Soul Reapers like my father was. Before my father was the ruler of Hell, he went here. He leveled up quickly, collecting souls for the Shadow World to function.

“Oh, okay. Bye, kiddos. Dad loves you!” My father brings me back to reality. “Asura?”

I twist around to look at him. His bright blue eyes soften on me.

“Call me every day and don’t forget dinner every Saturday night.”

I smile and nod. “Love you, Devil.” I close the door of the car and as soon as I’m away, his car disappears back to Hell with his surge of magic.

Derrick pushes past me and Killian, splitting us apart. I growl inhumanly at him, but he ignores us.

“Mess hall,” Killian says, pointing to the building right next to the academy as we walk in together and I nod. “Someone will show you around more, but I can show you to the office.”

Little to no people sit outside, but as soon as we walk through the doors, the halls are loaded with students. The student’s part like a sea as soon as their eyes land on me, filling the air with their childish whispers. Lifting my chin, I continue after Killian.

I pass a group that parts just enough for me to see Khazon. His face darkens and his jaw tightens, making him look so… handsome. I would never admit that two years ago. We were just best friends, nothing more. But two years have done him good Now it feels as if we’re nothing more than strangers.

I wave my fingers sweetly, twisting to do so. Where’s his hot hellhound? I turn to bump into something solid and warm—almost hot.

“So, you really did show?” Ledger’s voice comes. Here he is.

Stepping back, I look up. “I just can’t get enough of you.”

He smirks. “Either that or you love seeing Khazon mad.”

My teeth pull in my bottom lip, feeling the vertical labret piercing there. “A little bit of both.”

He chuckles, licking his lips and looking down at me. The height difference between us is almost insane. I’m five-foot-five and Ledger is at least seven-foot tall. Hellhounds are naturally that tall.

My eyes drop to his body. Today, he’s wearing a short black sleeve button up, showing off the veins running to his fingertips. Muscles bulge to break free from the sleeves. He has on khaki pants, and I bet if he turns around his ass will look so good. Ledger seems like the type to work out his whole body, not just his arms. His short black hair is pushed back showing off the jewelry lining his ears. “Where are you off to?”

“Office, I guess. My brother…” I peek around him to see Killian, but he’s completely gone. My jaw drops. Honestly a part of me forgot about him being here anyways. “Ass. He was taking me there.”

Ledger smiles. “Just ask and I’ll take you. You don’t have to lie.”

I almost snort, but instead I look up at him with innocent doe eyes. “Pretty please? I’m a very lost girl.”

“Being seen with you is going to bring down my reputation with the ladies,” he teases. “This will cost you.”

When he turns, I glance down at his round ass before following him. I’m a simple woman to please, that’s for sure. I flip my silver hair when I catch up. “Oh, no. How will I ever repay you?”

He smirks, glancing down at me. “I’ll figure it out.”

I nod, glancing at an even angrier Khazon. “Are you and Khazon actually friends?”

Ledger snorts, running his ringed fingers through his messy hair. “No. Khazon is friends with all the stuck up, rich demons. I’m just a low hellhound.”
