Page 36 of Hell's Reaper

“I know what it means, ass. I’m just curious why.”

He grumbles something, leaning to drink from the water fountain but when he pushes the button, the whole water fountain, including the water coming out of it, freezes. He groans and pulls away. Quickly, it thaws and turns back to liquid.

I move beside it, pushing the button. I feel his icy eyes on me, and I wait until he stands up and is done to stop pushing the button. “Does that always happen?”

He lets out a huff. “Only when I’m pissed.”

I smirk, looking up at him. “Are my questions pissing you off?”

He glares at me. “Yes.”

“So just agree to be my hound.”

He laughs, a harsh deep chuckle. “When you can barely take me down or hold your own? You’re weak and I would never be caught dead protecting someone like you.”

The bell rings at perfect time, letting him walk out of the gym.

His words sting. I never considered myself weak, and in this form, maybe I am. I was no match for Draco and his men or any hellhound here. I am at a lower level while all my friends are higher than me. Khazon got stronger… Can I?

“Don’t take it to heart,” Amos says, touching my back. “He had a Soul Reaper, but he failed to protect her.”

I look at her, watching her leave me behind. Is he scared that he is going to fail again? “If he’s not looking for a reaper, why else is he here?”

She shrugs. “Heard it’s for money.”

Before I can ask more, I feel heat behind me. “Are you okay?” Ledger’s voice comes from behind me.

I nod. “Leave him alone today. I pissed him off.”

The fire hellhound cocks a brow. “Why do you care?”

I glance up at him. “You know, for the future Queen of Hell, I’m actually a nice person sometimes.”

A smirk runs across his lips. “I guess.”

I scoff, punching him.

“Getting hellhounds is proving to be harder than I thought,” I say to Amos as we are in line for lunch.

She snorts. “That’s because you’re stubborn and go after the ones that don’t fucking want you.”

I laugh with her. “Rude. Everyone wants me.” I turn around to go sit down just as my tray is hit out of my hands by flying hands. It clatters to the floor and the room seemingly becomes silent. I look down at the wasted food I just paid for then up at Miya. Everyday feels like there is something new happening, especially with her.

She stares at me.

“That was rude, don’t you think?” I huff.

She laughs, stepping over the food and into my face. “Whore.” She shoves her phone in my face, where there’s a picture of Ledger and I kissing the stairwell.

I grit my teeth into a smile. They don’t need to know it bothers me. “Send me that. It’s hot.”

“And this?” she says, swiping her thumb to the side.

The next is a video of me dancing on Ledger at the club the night he found me. It’s from a side angle. That one made me smile. “Damn, I look good. Send that to me too.”

She scoffs. “Do you like pissing off Khazon? He’s mine, you know.”

I throw my head back and laugh. “Please, I don’t want him. You have proof that I’m focused on someone else, yet you are very insecure in your relationship.”
