“No, she didn’t!” I snap, grabbing my hair. “I left and you know this!”

“You shouldn’t talk to yourself,” a voice says from behind me, making me whirl around. A fae girl sits there smoking a cigarette and looking up at the sky.

“Mind your own business,” Circe says.

A smile runs on her lips, piercings on her lip shifting with her curling mouth. She stands, necklace chain clanking. Her pointed ears sag from the weight of her plugs. Her narrow almond shaped eyes move to me.

Her full lips are glossy pink with a piercing on the bottom one. She has a septum piercing and a pretty pink highlighted nose that reaches out to her high cheekbones. Pink hearts are scattered across her cheeks. She has black wing eyeliner, and her brows are filled in with white, four dots above them. Her hair is long, hanging down to her hips, but her bangs are pushed behind her pointed ears. She has on black cargo pants that have a belt with a chain that hangs and black boots.

“Oh, you’re an elf,” I mutter. My head spins and so does the world around me.

The elf grabs my arms and holds me. “Whoa. Are you okay, demon?”

I stand back up, fixing myself. “Uh…Sorry.”

She throws the cigarette down. “Come sit down. Here.” She helps me to the bench. “You don’t shift often, huh?”

I shake my head. “It’s a lot sometimes.”

She touches my hands, and that’s when I realize my hands are shaking. “Are you okay?”

I pull back. “Yeah. I just… I need to go my dorm.” I take a deep breath. “Thank you. I’ll be okay.”

“Are you sure? Should I walk you?”

I shake my head. “Thank you.” Slowly, I take my time getting back to the dorm. The stairs inside feel like the longest trip up. The world is spinning, and Circe is trying to gain control to stop me. Inside of the room, my vision blurs. My body aches as if someone has beaten me over and over. Circe is so close to the surface. I rush inside, moving straight to my bathroom and opening the medicine cabinet.

But the cabinet is empty.

My medicine is gone. My brows pull together and my hand pushes aside anything in the way. “Where—”

“Looks like you misplaced it,” Circe comments.

She knows I’d never do that. I pull out my phone, ignoring the texts from people flooding in, and dial my father.

“Hey, diaboli,” my dad says, answering the phone.

“Can you come get me?” I ask, eyes burning with tears. “I can’t—I can’t find my medicine and Circe is—”

He doesn’t even let me finish. “Be there in five. Stay on the phone.”

I drop to my knees, body crumbling with the pain. Circe has been fighting me this whole time. Suddenly, my vision blurs and all the will I have is gone.

“Asura? Asura? Are you—” the devil starts, making me roll my eyes at him.

I snatch the phone up from the floor. “No, Father, she isn’t here anymore.”

He lets out a sigh. “Don’t you dare do anything that will harm her.”

I scoff. “This is my body, too.” I get to my feet, stretching for the first time in so many years. It gets cramped being trapped in someone else’s body and mind. I look at myself in the mirror.

I look so much different in her body. My black horns are curling through her silver curls. Her bronze skin has completely changed to my lilac purple. My hands and arms have silver swirls of magic rushing through them. My face looks exactly like Asura, and although she’s gorgeous, it’s not mine. My tail wraps around my body and flicks something off the counter by accident. It’s been a while since my tail been out and free.

“Circe, don’t hurt her,” her father says. “Just give her the medicine back.”

Rolling my eyes, I run a hand over my curves. “Someone else took them. I had no idea she didn’t have them.”

“Someone took them?” The voice echoes in the room through the phone. I twist to see the devil in a suit, standing tall as ever. He’s never been my cup of tea, but I guess the silver fox would make others go wild.
