I’ve been staying with Cami ever since, but I know that it’s only temporary. The thought of going back to that house with Logan there makes me feel sick to my stomach. In fact, this has been coming for a long time. I needed the space to put everything into perspective. One thing was glaringly clear, I needed to find a new place to live.

“You can’t just barge into my life demanding I give you a second chance.” I place my shaking hands on Stryker’s broad chest and shove him back—I’m close to losing it. “What do you want from me, Stryker? What is it you actually want?”

He timidly moves closer, enveloping me in his strong arms and resting his forehead against mine. God, he feels so good. I want to push him away again, I want to be angry with him, but I can’t. He leans his head down, whispering, “I want to make this right between us because nothing has felt right since I held you in my arms, and I had to let you go. I want YOU, Phe, and I want you to give me a chance to prove myself. I can be what you need.”

“How exactly are you going to do that?” my voice quivers as I fist the front of his shirt. The whirlwind of emotions that’s currently set up home in my head has me all mixed up. I would love for someone to be in my corner like he’s saying, but at what cost? I know I’m being one of those girls I hate in my novels, the ones that give in too easily, but this isn’t a romance novel I’m living in, and I’m tired of fighting this on my own.

Removing one hand from around my waist, he pulls out his phone, opening the messaging app. Quickly typing out a message and sending it, he flips the phone around for me to see. “By doing something I should have done the moment I first kissed you.” There on the screen in front of me said it all.

Logan, we need to talk. Meet me at the diner in 15.

“When I get there, I’ll call your phone, so you can hear everything that is said,” he presses a soft kiss to my cheek before looking me straight in the eye. “Phe, I meant what I said. I want you to give us a chance, and when you’re ready, I want you to be able to tell me everything. I have your back; you’re safe now. You’re not fighting this on your own anymore.”

“If you’re going to meet him, then give him a message for me.” I step back, reaching down into my bag to grab some paper. Stryker watches me jot down a note to Logan, then pulls me in tightly before turning to leave. What just happened here?

Pulling me in, he squeezes me tightly before leaving me in the empty dance studio, wondering what the hell just happened.
