“Your son? That’s rich—and I don’t mean all of this…” I waved my hand around. “Coming from you.”

I heard everyone swallow. Dymon continued to eat his foodwith a smirk on his face. He was loving it.

“We don’t know you from a can of dog food, and now you’ve sunken your claws in my son, and everyone at this table already knows what you want from him.”

“And since you know everything, what might that be? What is it that I want from your son that he ain’t already given and givingme?”

She couldn’t say anything.

Round one belongs to me.

“Quinci,” his father called my name. “I’m interested in knowing about your family. What do they do?”

“My family owns a couple of Bed and Breakfasts and an orange and lemon grove. I can get you some oranges and lemons if you like. They are the best in the corner of Florida. I did a little workforbothbusinessesbefore I came here.”

Even though I was handling myself well,I was very frustrated because all these people sat at the table and let that woman talk to me the way that she did, which meant that they knew how she treated Dymon. I was more pissed for him than I was her trying to dunk on me. I dealt with people like her all the time.

“Ah, I see what it is now. You tryingto get a little money for your family?”

I reached into my jacket, pulling my phone out of my pocket. The type of case on my phone was the one that held credit cards. I slipped out theblackAMEX card and held it up.Her eyes nearly popped out of her head.

“Now, where do we go from here, Mrs. Danger? It’s obvious that you don’t like me, for whatever reason, and I don’t care to find out. But what you’re not going to do is talk to me like I’m a child, and you shouldn’t even talk to a child the way you are trying to talk to me.”

She chuckledand looked at Dymon. “And this is the type of girl you bring into my home, disrespecting your mother?

Dymon looked at her, getting ready to speak to her,and I held my hand out again. I was getting ready to let her have it, but then I thought aboutDonovan. I turned and looked at him with a huge smile on my face.

“Donovannn.”

“PrettyQuinciii.”

“Would you like to play a game on my phone?”

His eyes lit up. “Yes, ma’am.”

I was shaking so bad that I could barely pull a game up on my phone. When I finally got Fruit Ninja up, I handed it to him along with myAirpods.Once he was situated, I looked back at her with a smile.

“You have some nerveto be talking about disrespect when you’ve disrespected me since the moment I sat down.Although my parents taught me to be respectfulof everyone, sometimes, youmustmeet disrespect with disrespect, especially when one knows better, or should. I told Mr. Dymon…after weconsummated our relationship,to never ever let abitchdisrespect me, and I must say bitch, and you could absolutely be mutually inclusive. I’m going to tell you something that no one at this table has the balls to tell you, and that’s to shut thefuckupsometimes before you run into someone just a little more disrespectful than I am being right now. My grandmothers would be livid at the way I talked to someone who’s their ages right now, but you neededto hear it.”

Except forthe Airpods, you couldn’t hearanything in the room.

“Duncan, please put her out of our home, please.”

I stood. “I can leave on my own.”

She shook her head before picking up her glass of wine. “And you’ll marry her just to spite me, not knowing that her and that mouth will be your downfall.”

“I’m going to marry her because I love her. Not for any other reason.”

I sat back down because I had some more to get off my chest.“You are unbelievable. You did not care about his downfall when he wasn’t running your company, but now you do.”

“Quinci,” Dymon called my name. “Let’s go.”

“No. Stay. You got something to get off your chest.Do it. I don’t know what my son told you about me, but—”

“He’s told me enough, and I wholeheartedly believe all of it. And I’ve made my own conclusion. You talk crazy to him, treat him crazy, but the minute you need something, you’re in his office asking for something that his brother should’ve asked him.”

“Mom. I told you not to ask him,” Declan chimedwhile shaking his head.
