She grinned before leaning forward, rubbing her nose against mine and kissing me. Sensing a pair of eyes on us, I turned slightly to see her father standing where I was when I first noticed her, so I backed away from her.

“So, this is it, huh? The Grove.” I looked out at the several rows of trees that held a lot of oranges and lemons.

“Yes, this is it.” She inhaled hard. “You smell it?”

“Depending on what it is. Because the smell of these oranges is reminding me of…”

“Don’t be nasty. There are cameras right here. Audible too. That my dad can see from his phone.”

“Ah. Well, in that case. I am hungry for some food.”

“Okay, we can leave.”

As we were walking outside, her father was getting in the car.

“Your dad is leaving me.”

“No, he’s not.”

She handed me the helmet to her scooter, and I stared at it.

“Now, I know you don’t expect me to get on that, let alone, put that on top of my waves.”

She sighed. “So, have you ever been on a scooter before?”

“What do you think?”

She laughed. “Actually, no. You are very, very uppity, Mr. Dymon. Now, come on,” she insisted and tapped the seat.

“Call your father back.”

Her mouth fell opened, and her eyes widened. “You’re scared?”

“No. You nearly killed me on four wheels. How can I trust you on two wheels?”

“I’ve been riding a scooter since I was eight.”

“That same one!” I stressed in disbelief.

She laughed sarcastically. “Well, it’s, like, a five-mile walk. And it’s getting dark. The land raccoons we have do attack. They are huge too. But it’s okay if you get scratched because you’re rich enough to get the doctor to come out at night to treat you with a tetanus shot if they don’t have to amputate it.”

I stared at her to see if she was lying, but I really couldn’t tell. “Alright.”

When she got on, I got on behind her. She cranked it up and pulled slowly to the entrance.

“Mr. Dymon, I’m sorry, but I lied about the raccoons. I didn’t feel like walking.”

Before I could respond, she’d pulled us into the street, picking up more speed. This girl was going to be the death of me.

That Night

It was a little after two in the morning, and I was in the bed, in the room near her parents’ room, while she slept downstairs. When we made it from the Grove, we had dinner, and her parents had already made the rooms up for us.

Dinner went better than I expected; even though her father barely talked. Bern had to make him talk, and he hated it. If only he knew that his daughter was the same way with me. I was just thankful that neither one of them mentioned our sexual lifestyle. I hoped that earlier was the last time it would be mentioned.

When my phone buzzed on the nightstand, I picked it up to see Quinci had sent me a text.
