“This is Latricefrom reception, andthere is someonehere fromyour cleaning serviceand—”

“Put him on the phone.”

He cleared his throat.“Hello, Mr. Danger, this isClark. I’ve been trying to get in contact withyou all this morning. Earlier, there was anaccident where a jug of bleachfell off the cart as one of the ladies were coming from the bathroom, and… well, I can assume you know the rest.”

“No, I don’t. Tell me.”

He cleared his throat again.“Mr. Danger.Part of the carpet in your room is ruined.”

“My custom Persian rug is ruined?” I asked as calmly as I could.

“I’m afraid so, Mr. Danger.”

My grip tightened so hard onthe phone that I thought it might break in half.I couldn’t say anything. That custom carpet was nearly $200,000.I’d been using that cleaning service for the last two years, and everything has always been straight with them, unlike other companies where I’ve hadto lock my jewelryup. It was hard to find good help.

“Mr. Danger, I am truly sorry about the accident.I will getit fixed if you just give me some time.”

I stayed quiet. “Clark, do not send your team back to my house until you replace my carpet.”

“But—”

I slammed the phone down.

If it wasn’t one thing, it wasanother-fucking-other.
