I pushed the button, letting the window halfway down.It sounded just like it did on the movies;cars honking loud, people shouting out their windows, and the smell… even the smell was different. I supposed it would be different sinceI was used to a salty, fishy smellmixed with a citrusy smell if one could imagine that.

“So.” I let the window up and looked at Denim. “Will we pass by where we will be working?”

“No. We will not be working together. You’ll be working for my brother, Dymon.”

“Your brother…Diamond?Like a… jewel.”

“Different spelling, but no D. If he ever hears you add a D on his name, he will be upset, but that’s neither herenorthere.I would never get any work done if I worked in the same building as them.”

“Them?”

“My brothers. All three of them. Diesel, Declan, and Dymon. Some of the smartest men I know, yet, when I’m around, they all actlike they are dumb as hell. So, yeah, no, my office is in a different building.Walking distance, though. So, we’d be able to have lunch sometimes. Maybe tomorrow. You’re going to need it.”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing, really.”

“Well,I’ve dealt with hundreds ofpeople’s attitudesatTranquil. I’ll be fine.”

I acted like I didn’t seeAl’s eyebrows raise.

An hour later,we pulledin front ofa tall, sleek black building. There were women in skimpy clothing and tall heels coming in and outof thesilver glass doors.

D & D Lux Suites.

“D & D Lux… This is your family’s, too?”

She nodded her head.

“This is where you will be staying. It’s littered with peoplebecause, inside, they are having Sunday Funday.”

“Oh, that sounds fun.”

Al popped the trunkand got out, opening the door for me, walking around the car, doing the same for Denim.I got out and stretched, looking aroundand inhaling the scent of my new city.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Danger.” The bellhop came over with the cart, putting my luggage on it.

Grabbing my tote andcooler,I closed the door and walked around the back of the car. A lot of the girls were waving at Denim, looking at me weird, making me suddenly feel underdressedin my orange Citrus Grove printed tee,Nike leggings, and orange Nike’s.

“Twenty-A, right, Ms. Danger?”

“Yes.”

I set my cooler on the luggage before he rolled away.

“How long will you be?”

“I’ll call you.”

Al nodded his head. “And Ms. Everly. Nice to meet you. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of each other. Enjoy New York.”

“I’m sure I will.”

At the top of the stairs, the doorman held the door open for us. The cool air immediatelycoming out of the building made the hairs on my arms stand up. Inside, therewassemi-loud music coming from therestaurant. People were dancing and having drinks. There was a sports bar and several largeTVswith sports on.

“That’sMetri’s.Open untilmidnight every night except for weekends, it’s three a.m.However, we do have twenty-four-hour room service. It’s kindofa hotel, slash, luxury apartment complex. My brother is quite thegeniuswhen he’s not being anasshole.Pool on the roof.Pool outside. The pools are opened for guests only except for the weekend. That’s why all these people here.”
