“Glad you are taking the time and getting to know me, Mr. Dymon.”

He squinted his eyes. Hedefinitely wastrying to get under my skin.I wasn’t about to let him get to me on todaybecause for the next two days, I wasn’t going to see his face or hear his voice.

“No. You’re dismissed.”

We stared at each other for a few moments before I backed out of his office, closing the door.

Yeah, nigga.

Back at my desk, I opened my computerand went straight to myPayPaltostartcreatingan invoice to send to him.In the middle of me creating my itemized bill, my Kog tab lit up. Clicking on it, I had a private message from D. Frasier.

D. Frasier(CIO): Quinci, I’m sorry for how I reacted. I wasn’t expecting to see you. I was just home. I was going to text you to meet up.

Mhm. That’s whywe were going to text each other at the same time.

Q. Everly: It’s fine, Derek. No worries. I can only imagine. It’s been a while since weseeneach other last.

D. Frasier (CIO): Lunch @Palmer’s two blocks over.

Q. Everly: Okay.

After I finished creating the invoice,I looked in his office to see him leaning back in his seat, with his desk phone up to his ear. From the look on his face, the conversation wasn’t a bad one. Just like he wanted to ruin my day this morning with the fraternizing thing,I was going to ruin his with this invoice.I read through it before I pressed send.

Tea. (Eight cups) Wednesday – Friday.$72

Uber. Wednesday – Friday. (Back and forth to get your $72 worth of tea. Including tip) –$160.

Peaceof mind—$1,000.

I pressed send on the email and watched him out of the corner of my eye. He squinted at the computer before sitting up, cradling the phone between hisear and shoulder. I knew the moment he opened it because his eyebrows went togetherbefore he looked at the side of my head. Moments later, a new email popped up on my screen.

Denied.

Before I could curse his ass out, my Kog tab lit up. To my surprise, it was a message from Dymon.

D. Dymon (CEO): Needed in HR.

Q: Everly: Why?

I looked at him, and he was doing his signature eyebrow raise.

D. Dymon (CEO): Theone thing you seem to not grasp is that my name has CEO beside it. Which means that whatever I say, goes. Nothing you respond to me with should have a ‘?’ at the end of it, especially after I’ve given you a command.

I glared at him through the window.

D. Dymon (CEO): HR. Now.

Q. Everly: Next time your mother calls, I’m putting her through.

I saw his fingersmovinga mile a minuteacross the keyboard, but I disconnected my messenger before he could send it.I stood and put my phone in my back pocket, walking away from my desk.

“Wenci!” he called out.

“Going to HR like you said!” I responded.
